We are interested in buying either at the BWV or the BCV. Would we be better off buying directly through Disney? I read that if you buy a resale, you pay closing costs. But if you buy from Disney, you don't. Are there any other differences?

BWV is hard to get into right now since Disney is apparently buying up all the resale contracts or if not all a good portion of them. Who knows how long that will last, but apparently they have 100,000 points that they are selling only to current BWV owners and then will only open it up to add-ons for other current DVC members.

BCV is really only selling through Disney right now - I have only seen like 3 resales. But BCV only opened last year so until it sells out - which is projected to be this summer - Disney will probably be the only one selling regularly.

I guess it depends on how fast you want to buy. If you aren't in any hurry, watch the resale market or contact an agent with your needs and see what happens.

I wouldn't worry about closing costs, or at least not make that the swing factor in buying. $400 on a $12,000 plus purchase is not going to make that big a difference. Where you want to stay is more important.

Plus, remember, that in a resale, all aspects are negotiable.

Good luck

Do the numbers and work out what's cheapest. There is no difference between "Disney points" and "resale" points. Pick the resort you want and work out what's best value.

Buy where you want to stay the most.

We purchased at OKW thru disney in 1994 and just added on at HHI thru Shontell and dvcbyresale.com Both processes were efficiently done thru the mail. I agree you should look at where you want to purchase and have that be your decision maker. OKW, WVL must be by resale. Prices are better by resale, but if disney executes ROFR, you are out of luck.

Right now BCV is selling at $74 with Magical Beginnings, and there may be points for sale at BWV as of June 1 if members haven't bought all of the 60,00-100,00 points being sold. I do not believe that you can find a resale for less than $74 that Disney won't buy out from under you. At $74 buying direct from Disney is cheaper (no closing), financing is offered(9.7%), and you can make immediate ressies. Also, the financing does not show up on your credit report if it's from Disney. If you are paying by credit card, or using one for your down payment, you can only do it thru Disney. If none of this is important to you, and there is a resale for around$74 that has a year of banked points and all current points available, buy the resale.

Thank you so much for all the replies. We really like the BW, and with the standard rooms, I think we are leaning towards them over the BCV. I am assuming the rooms are about the same at the 2 of them.

We will be paying cash, so financing doesn't help swing the vote. I am not in a rush to do this tomorrow, so maybe we will wait and see how the BW points pan out that disney has reacquired. Lots to think about!!

Can anyone recommend a good place for me to check out for resales? I have been checking the Timeshare Store, but I don't know of any other reliable places to check. You can email me Lexxiefern27@yahoo.com or PM me if you don't want to post it here. Thanks again.

For us, where you stay was not a big deal. My answer was anywhere at WDW. So we went with the who had the best bottom line.

We compared resales with closing cost added to the cost from Disney with the then MB Discount. Since we were buying only 180 points, the closing cost made a big impact. Plus there were not that many low point contracts available.

Lexxiefern,
Some other resale sites include:

www.atimeshare.com [url]www.timesharesbyresale.com
www.tug2.net

We bought through Jaki Apetz of atimeshare. Great lady to deal with...super friendly and helpful. Shontell Crawford of timesharesbyresale is also very friendly and helpful.

We bought from Disney and added on once through them and did a few add-ons with resellers. I think your initial purchase should be through Disney only because of the "magic" I felt receiving all the goodies like the tote bages. But if the extra magic is too expensive then buy where you want to stay most often.
Good Luck.

$69 per point. No muss no fuss. I used the new Disney Visa to buy a 50 point add on and got $34 reward and 0% interest for 6 months.

Try resale first, offer around 70 - 71, hopefully with usuable points, if you fail, you can always call Disney and get BVC for 74 giving back this years points, if you have time and can handle the wait time, try resale first, then fall back on Disney.

The timeshare store says you get the same welcome kit that you get through Disney. Is there more that you get from disney?

Thank you JOC for the links - I have them bookmarked.

Also, how long does it take from start to finish? Say I found a resale tomorrow (not planning on it, but hey) how soon would I have to send the total $$?

We purchased a resale and made an offer back in March. We heard from Disney that they approved the offer April 2 and we still have not receiving the closing paperwork so it does take some time. If you can find the right resale and you are not in to big a hurry to make reservations it is worth it. We got 150 VWL points for $69/point. We are already considering a BCV add on!

I confess...I did not read all the responses.
I voted for buying from DVD. Why??? Because of the ease. I really don't like a hassle, and DVD makes it nice'n easy. Although I do agree that you may save a few bucks resale, it's not likely enough to make the hassle attractive to me.

Good luck....

Disney sends a lithograph of your home resort and/or a DVC backpack or tote bag as gifts.

Here's our resale timeline:
Feb. 14 - made offer on a resale; sent out deposit check to closing company
Feb. 15 - contract sent to Disney for ROFR
Feb. 25 - Disney opted not to exercise their ROFR
March 7 - received closing documents for signatures; faxed them back and wired the rest of the money to closing company
April 1 - finally closed

Our whole transaction was done via e-mail and fax. The big time gap (March 7 to April 1) was because our seller lives in Venezuela and he wasn't able to get into the U.S. Embassy until March 25 to have his documents notarized because of the war situation. Then it took a couple days for his documents to get FedEx'd back to the U.S. (seller's documents have to be original; we faxed our signed documents back). We would have been done in less than a month if it wasn't for this holdup.

You may not save a whole lot of money and even time on a resale, but you'll get the home resort that you want (if you want BWV, VWL or OKW). We definitely wanted BWV so buying through Disney wasn't an option for us.
