Should we avoid the Wonder until it goes into Dry Dock?

We sailed on the Wonder first (November 2013) and then the Fantasy (January 2015). The Fantasy is a beautiful ship and the technology on board is amazing and the AquaDuck is fun, but I would go back to the Wonder again. She isn't lacking anything that is a deal breaker for us. There are things we actually liked better on the Wonder and we thought the service was just a titch better over all on the Wonder too.

We have 1 cruise under our belt, we did the Dream a few weeks ago. We are looking into going again but for a longer time. Thinking the Fantasy for 7 days or maybe the Wonder for 5 but since its the only 1 that has not had a dry dock to refurb and while they are doing the rooms over while its at sea. What are the chances that we are not going to get a old outdated/worn room. What about the other parts of the ship. Should we wait until its been through its dry dock?

ABSOLUTELY ZERO!! The rooms are nice and are in pretty good condition. DCL and ALL (most) cruise lines CONTINUALLY maintain their ships or they would become rust buckets in a hurry - and they are to big of an investment to not maintain.

actually we had a very banged up room on the Wonder in May 2014. It was badly maintained. Even had such a wobbly floor that the coffee table could not stand properly. The door of the safe was half broken off. Only half of the drawers were functioning. The walls had all kind of dirt on them. We went with a long list to guest services and they immediately sprang into action and actually moved us in the end. But this room experience really made me reconsider wanting to sail the Wonder again.

However, since all the rooms are getting refurbished right now, currently I would be very happy to book the Wonder again!

So glad to see all these positive responses re the Wonder. I was reading "the unofficial guide to Disney cruiselines" and they were so down on the Wonder (this was, of course, right after I bookrd the southern Caribbean itinerary on her) and I was starting to get a little bummed out. The wonder is the only ship we haven't sailed but she seems to have the best itineraries!

Wow, you must have had a really bad room. Our room in April was as great as always (and it was not one of our normal rooms)

I've got to pile on the praise for the Wonder. We sailed first on the Dream and then caught the NYE cruise out of Galveston. I wouldn't hesitate to sail the Wonder again - particularly for the right itinerary.

They have to sell there books so to be critical brings it out books take a long time to publish so by the time there purchased there out of date.

I miss the Chihuly as well! I also miss the 2nd staircase in the atrium on the Magic. Granted the new design offers more space in the atrium on the Magic but always loved the grand look of the dual staircases.

It's gtreat to see so many positive replies!! We've only been on one cruise (Fantasy) and will board the Wonder next Friday. I've had niggling thoughts for an entire year that maybe I made a mistake booking the Wonder. Not feeling that way now after everyone's great feedback! Thank you !!!

We have done the Dream, Fantasy and the Wonder. The Wonder remains my favorite :) We did enjoy all the bells and whistles of the newer ships but the Wonder just feels like home to us. We just sailed to Alaska on the Wonder last August and are looking forward to our Baja cruise on the Wonder this October :)

We were on the Wonder in June, 2014 for the Alaska cruise. The only problem I had was that these ships are designed basically with warm weather in mind (pools, outside seating, etc.) and it was very cold on a couple of the days up there. The ship though, is incredibly beautiful and classy and has held up very well. I wouldn't hesitate to go on the Wonder again.

We've been on four cruises on the Wonder and one on the Magic. It's a lovely ship. We do want to try the Dream and the Fantasy, but the itineraries haven't worked out for us yet. We're booked on the Wonder again in October.

Sailed on the Dream for our first cruise (4nt), loved it but now we only sail the Wonder. I don't know that I could go back to the bigger ship, love the smaller one! She is still in great condition. The rooms were a bit run down but still very nice (we are very picky about hotel rooms) but that will all be fixed anyway in the next month or so.

I honestly think everyone should be able to see the ship as they do, and think as they want about it.
There is no point saying the ship is wrecked and in bad condition, but at the same time those who haven't sailed in a could of years are also in no place to say she is great and there are no reasons to be concerned as one poster seems to be intent on self defending the DCL brand.

Each and everyone of us are entitled to an opinion and we are able to express that without being shouted down by others.

My hesitation about booking the Wonder is the lack of a water slide. But perhaps that isn't really an issue.

The first DCL cruise I did was 2001 on the Wonder. It was amazing. Held the place of the best trip of my life until a beach vacation nudged it out slightly in 2008.
Now - my kids only remember the Magic from last May. They have the waterslide thing in their brains.
I just asked my 12 year old son yesterday (he and daydream together daily about "the next one") if he'd be ok with a Wonder trip as it doesn't have a AquaDunk or Duck. He said with all sincerity that the slide was fun, that any cruise on any Disney ship would be just find because it was only a little piece of the amazingness.

I am booked to sail on the Wonder for Christmas this year. I recently learned from a very reliable source that the Wonder will be going to dry dock for 3 weeks in October and will be having a major overhaul done then.

The Dry dock gap has been noticed and speculation on threads made here on newer threads since the schedule was released.
