Should we avoid the Wonder until it goes into Dry Dock?

We have 1 cruise under our belt, we did the Dream a few weeks ago. We are looking into going again but for a longer time. Thinking the Fantasy for 7 days or maybe the Wonder for 5 but since its the only 1 that has not had a dry dock to refurb and while they are doing the rooms over while its at sea. What are the chances that we are not going to get a old outdated/worn room. What about the other parts of the ship. Should we wait until its been through its dry dock?

No she's a fine ship and staterooms are being upgraded. The rooms are not worn out, and it's going to be quite a while until it has a major refurbishment as that will not occur until the new Panama Canal opens in 2016 ish. Now whilst Magic was refurbished in fact some places were a little worn they didn't do everything.
All ships have frequent maintenance and as there as sea issues occur, there like floating hotels and therefore things get worn all the time.

I agree. It's amazing how Disney is *constantly* working on their ships to keep them in excellent condition. That's one of the main reasons why I have no desire to cruise on some of the other lines out there, having heard far too many stories of decrepit rooms on outdated ships. I wouldn't hesitate to cruise the Wonder. In fact, we're currently looking at Alaska on the Wonder.

I would not hesitate to sail the Wonder tomorrow! We just sailed on her for the second time, in December 2014 and she is a lovely and special ship. This was prior to the cabins being upgraded (bedding and some furnishings) so she is even better than before. :thumbsup2

Actually, the Magic is the only ship that has had a dry dock to refurb. The Dream and Fantasy are newer and when they have dry dock it's for maintenance, not a major re-Imagineering like the Magic had, and which the Wonder will have -- probably sometime next year.

FWIW, we prefer the Wonder because of her itineraries, especially Panama, Hawaii, and Alaska.

I think the Wonders major refurb has been delayed until Panama new locks open and fence why there doing the rooms now, it will just have a service dry dock.

Unless they add an Aqua Dunk and the fan tail (or whatever it's called) for stability like the Magic has.

We will be on the Wonder in December (thank you Disney for coming back to Texas!!!!). Although I'm guessing that by that time all of the rooms will have been refurbished, we booked before we even knew that they were doing that-- so no, I wouldn't hesitate to sail on the Wonder right now!

For us it is just the opposite, we are trying to get in as many cruises on the Wonder as possible before the re-Imagineering. We like Parrot Cay more than Cariocas. We like Route 66 and hate to see her go. We have never found her to be run down, outdated or worn, she has the splendor of any mid sized cruise ship. We have been on newer RCCL and NCL ships that were in worse shape than the Wonder.

Everyone has a favorite ship, ours happens to be the Wonder. We were on the Magic Last year after the update and they were still working out the bugs. We will sail the Wonder after she receives her update but will continue to rebook as much as we can before.

We've only sailed the Wonder (and only one cruise) and I am so happy we'll sail her again this October!

Yeah, I really wish they would keep one of the classic ships as a "classic" not just a mini-me of the larger, newer ships.

My hesitation about booking the Wonder is the lack of a water slide. But perhaps that isn't really an issue.

It depends if a slide is a deal breaker for you, The Wonder is a fine ship, good condition, good shows, good staterooms, if the itinerary was right I would book the Wonder again, but it's over in Alaska In the summers when we cruise and I have done that for now.

I am with MPS516. It is my favorite ship. I am not looking forward to the overhaul and losing the design elements it currently has. I love the Chihuly in the lobby, which was removed from the Magic with the overhaul.

I agree smog-- the one thing I didn't like on the "new" Magic was the lack of the Chihuly-- I thought it was incredible!
