Should we avoid EMH parks?

Hi,

We are staying onsite and I read some comments throughout out other posts where the the poster noted that crowds are higher at EMH parks and they implied they avoid those parks during EMH.

Did I read that correctly?

In the collective group's experience, is it better to plan a park day with EMH or avoid it even if we're staying onsite? Why?

Many thanks.

So here's my take. I really like attending EMH at MK because you can get a lot done, especially at morning EMH and later at night for evening EMH. Also really like morning EMH at Animal Kingdom. But if you do not have parkhopper tickets (and we always do) then you might want to avoid parks with EMH, because they can be busier than other parks because a lot of onsite guests go to the park with EMH. We like to go to a park with morning EMH and the go back to the resort for a midday break, then hop to a different park in the evening.

It comes down to if you have park hoppers or not

With park hoppers: you absolutely should do emh since you're paying for it in your room stay. There's really no reason not to since you can partake in low crowds either an hour before park opening or 2 hours after park opening. Then when it gets busy, leave for another park

Without park hoppers: avoid emh parks because everyday at Disney is crowded, then you add a ton of on site guests going for emh. You can enjoy the emh but you won't be able to leave the high crowds and wait times during the regular hours without the hopper

Agree with the others. We have hoppers, and go to the AM park for a few hours, then hop to another park and use our FP there. We usually ride all the major things we want to in those 2/3 hours. One of the reasons we feel hoppers are worth it.

Hmmm...that makes good sense....so would you use FP+ for your EMH time or use EMH time as standby and then FP+ later in the day or at the hopper park?

Many thanks!

We usually make FP selections for the EMH park in the morning so we can make a fourth selection either in that park or the park we are going to go to later. Sometimes if we have a dinner booked in the evening park we will make our selections there though.

There is no FP during EMH time. Standby only.
Definitely use EMH, especially morning EMH, if you can get there at the beginning of EMH time.

You can't select FP's during emh but when I park hop, I always have FP's set up in the second park

This is the main reason we stay on site (or should I say pay extra to stay on site). We take advantage of the morning EMH almost every day of our 17 day trip every year. You can get so much done in that hour, and in parks where FP's are tiered, we head to one of the Tier A in EMH then FP the other (e.g Test Track and Soarin'). Depending on what time of the year you visit, you can ride 3 to 4 attractions before official rope drop for off site guests.

EMH as standby and fastpass later, though we usually schedule FP for the first park of the day. As others mentioned, FP isn't offered during EMH and you don't need it (at least for morning EMH at MK - don't know about Pandora at AK, but you wouldn't need it for Safari or Everest). And not all rides are open during EMH.

So for example, for a morning EMH at MK we might ride Space Mountain a couple times right when the park opens for EMH (you should get to the park at least 15 minutes before it opens if not earlier), then ride Buzz a time or two, then perhaps Pooh if we have time, and by then it will be about time for regular open and we'll head over to ride Big Thunder and Splash first thing with no wait, and then perhaps Haunted Mansion. Then we might have FP beginning around 9:15 for say Pirates, then Jungle Cruise, then 7 Dwarfs. We won't actually use our first FP until towards the end of the window, around 10:15, then we'll ride Pirates at 10:15, go ride Jungle Cruise around 10:40 (with the 10:15-11:15 PF), then head over to 7 Dwarfs and ride that at 11:15 (using the 11:15-12:15 FP), then head back to the resort for lunch and pool time. For the evening park we'll try to schedule whatever FP is available and looks decent, or we'll just ride standby whatever doesn't have too long a line.

Sometimes we will go to morning EMH (or just regular RD) and ride what we can standby with little to no wait, then when it gets busy we head back to the resort for lunch/pool, then we'll have FP for the evening park. Only reason I don't like doing that as much is because I like having flexibility in the evenings regarding which park we go to.

We also tend to AM EMH whenever they are available and then hop to another park around 1030/11am.

PM EMH isn’t a big priority for us for many reasons, one being the parks still seem quite busy as day guests do not have to leave, they just aren’t permitted to ride the attractions (or at least they shouldn’t be allowed to but that’s a completely different rant).

We’ll make our FPs for the second Park starting at about 1030.

Then it’s off to the resort for some R&R and hopefully I’m able to book an additional FP for the evening at a park TBD.

This is good stuff; I didn't know FP couldn't be made for EMH. The planning tips are very helpful as well. Thank you.

Another question: Does Disney change their EMH parks and locations if it's already posted to the Disney calendars?

Others probably pay closer attention to calendars, but I don't think they change the posted EMH all that much. They do update park hours however -- so a park might open an hour earlier or close an hour later than the posted time. Those updates usually occur the month before. So November hours should be updated this coming week.
