Hey all,

This board has been a wonderful resource for our first trip to the World. We leave tommorrow morning!!!!

We are staying at the Wilderness Lodge and I was wondering if we should discreetly ask if there is an upgrade or just let nature take its course. We booked standard and we fully expect to get standard but an upgrade would always be nice!!

We have never asked for an upgrade. You might ask if there are any upgrades available and to be polite you might, if they say yes, ask how much that would cost. That would give them a chance to offer it for free.

Chances are if you are going to ask for an upgrade the Cast Member will think you are willing to pay for it and will not give it to you for free. I was told when a free upgrade happens it automatically comes up in the computer once they put in your information and something will come up that says you got a free upgrade.

Thanks for your input!! I am not one to ask for anything so if it happens so be it. 15 hours to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're welcome and I think not asking for one is the right thing to do. If it happens that you get a free upgrade great, if not you will be in Disney World and that should be a lot better.

We just got back TODAY from WL and got a free upgrade for our 4 day stay. It can happen, and it seems to fairly often at WL.

We stayed at WL 2 weeks ago and got an upgrade, without asking as well!!
pixiedust: hoping so for your trip as well

My past experiences at WL with upgrades are a no go, even if you ARE willing to pay. The resort books up fully very often. Last time, I was willing to pay, and my only option was the Yosemite Suite. I wasn't willing to pay THAT much...

Don't you mean they would be a no go if the Resort was 100% sold out? In your situation all the regular rooms must have been booked, but all they had was the Yosemite Suite if you wanted to upgrade to that. So my guess is when the Cast Member looks in their computer and it would show the only thing available at that time, even if it was a suite.

We rec'd a free upgrade in 2002 at the Contemporary for our first "real" trip to Disney (1996 POFQ only a quick 3-day Disney "intro" course), which was an incredible 7th floor MK view, and then again at Wilderness Lodge in 2004, also an upper level MK view room, both without asking.

I just returned from Disney today. We checked in on Sunday for a four night stay. We were booked for a garden view in the garden wing at the Contemporary Hotel. My mother's flight arrived before mine, so she took Magical Express a few hours before me. I called her when I landed to see if she made it to the hotel okay. She said yes and that she and my niece were in the lounge on the 12th floor waiting for our room to be ready. I was shocked. I secretly had hoped that we would get upgraded to the main building, but I had no idea we would get upgraded to a Magic Kingdom view on the Atrium level. It was truly a "magical wish" come true! Anything is possible at Disney.:wizard:

You lose nothing for checking if an upgrade is available.
