Should my points be in holding???

Decided to book a last minute three night stay in December to use up some points. In late November I booked a one bedroom at Saratoga and waitlisted for a studio for 12/14-12/17. Waitlist came through within a couple days so I got the studio. Just realized yesterday they had cancelled the one bedroom and then booked the studio as a totally separate reservation thereby leaving the balance of the points from the one bedroom (which were not the ones expiring, those went toward the studio) in holding. Shouldn't the waitlist fulfillment have just put the extra 2013 points back into the regular 2013 pool so they'd be eligible to bank (I have a June UY so, by end of Jan.)? I obviously need to call MS but wanted to check here to see if I'm missing something?

Thanks!

I would send MS an email using the contact form on the member website and ask them to reallocate your points.

Did you set up the wait list online yourself? There is a place to specify that you want another reservation canceled if the wait list comes through.
Hopefully MS will fix this for you. Good luck!

Thank you both. I did send an email to Member Services so we'll see what they say. They did have an issue with the Waitlist originally as I noticed the balance of the points used for the One Bedroom never made it back to my account so I had to call them. I was told they took care of it but apparently I should have followed up to make sure they did it correctly.

It depends upon when your December wait list came through. If it was within 31 days of the arrival date, then any extra points from the one bedroom not needed for the studio should be in holding. Since you said you wait listed in late November and it came through a few days after that, I am assuming it was within the 31 days time frame.

That means those points can not be banked, and must be used for a stay by May 30, 2014, that can be booked within 60 days of arrival. A wait list coming through does not negate the holding requirement if it is within 31 days.

Of course! You are a much more attentive reader of dates than I am, Chuck.
OP, this is the reason that wait lists can be specified to expire at either 31 days or 7 days. If you choose not to use the 31 days option then a lower cost reservation will always result in holding points. If you use the 31 days option (which was apparently not a choice for you since it was already fewer days than that until checkin) then you will not have to worry about holding points.

Ok, got it thanks. Duh, I should have realized that beforehand so I didn't end up still having leftover points I can't use but now with restrictions. Guess I'm not used to last minute planning. Shame on me.
