Should I switch? POFQ pool down for maintenance

Hi everyone! I just made a reservation for POFQ form March 2024 - I love this resort, but learned the pool will be closed for maintenance during our dates. I know we can go to the Ol' Man Island pool at Riverside. I'm just curious how easy it is to get to the POR pool from POFQ? We will probably only use the pool for one day and we are two adults, so we won't have kids in tow. I'm also slightly concerned about any noise that might be going on, though we will most likely be out and about most of the day. My other options would be switching to a preferred room at POR or a Preferred or GDT room at CSR. Any thoughts or recommendations?

We've only ever stayed at Riverside but as far as I remember it would be a pretty far walk. Your best bet would probably be taking the boat over since I believe it goes to Riverside before Springs and the pool is close to the dock.

I wouldn’t expect pool maintenance noise to be loud. If you only plan on one pool day I think you should keep POFQ. It’s a longish walk to POR but a scenic walk & the boat is an option.

I don’t know what room category you have booked, but if it were me, I would request building seven at POFQ. It is the closest building to POR, it is not close to the FQ pool, so no work noise, there is only one building between seven and the main lobby, the bus stop is on the side of the main building closest to you, and I walked to POR many times from there. The walk didn’t feel too long since I didn’t have to walk through any of FQ. I really enjoyed my stay there, more than when I stayed at the other end of POFQ.

The walk is not that bad. If you are in building 7 it's less than a 1/2 mile walk, and it's a nice walk along the river. We have done it a few times when staying at one of the PO resorts. According to google the distance from POFQ lobby to Ol' Man Island is 0.6 miles.

Thank you to all who have responded! I appreciate the feedback.

I LOVE the Building 7 idea, thank you! We were in building 4 a few weeks ago and loved it, but building 7 could really fit the bill for this trip. We don't mind a leisurely walk along the river - it sounds nice, actually!

I think we will stay put at POFQ especially since we may only use the pool once. It's a bit more to go to preferred at POR or CSR and we could use that $$ for a nice dinner.

Thank you, again, for all the input and advice.

GDT at CSR hands down for me! Much nicer rooms. Only downside I see is no boat to DS. Aside from much nicer rooms CSR has a good casual dining option in 3 Bridges and some nice bars.

That's very true - I love 3 Bridges and we haven't tried Toledo yet . . . dang, too many good options!!! :)

I would stick with POFQ, request building #7, and use one of the quiet pools at POR. We've used the quiet pool in the Mansions and had it all to ourselves several times.

Hi, I am going to kind of hijack this thread because there seems to be a lot of knowledgeable people - sorry 🫣 I guess I’m shameless. We are staying at POFQ 1/28-2/3 (pre-cruise). We aren’t worried about the pool maintenance or the noise from it. We booked essentially the lowest rate because of the 25% off and we had a horrible experience at POR (we were like between two bus stops and never were able to take the same route to our room twice and the dang buildings are so funky with the multiple stair cases, plus I was 🤮 one night and my anti nausea meds were in my room and it was just a bad experience for me but I digress, but because of this we actually preferred the much smaller POFQ and the lowest room category because I know have a thing where I would prefer to see my room from the parking lot or at least my building because yeah I was just slightly traumatized from that 😬), but you seem to be quite knowledgeable about this resort and was wondering if you had any advice or suggestions on which building to try to make a request for given our category. I know it isn’t going to be a guarantee, but trying is better than nothing. So I guess I’m trying to say I’m hoping for a room overlooking the parking lot. Weird I know. But would be so appreciative for any advice!

Based on what you have said, I would suggest requesting building four. It is the first building behind the bus stop, next to the lobby, and close the parking lot. A second choice would be building seven, which is the next building along the parking lot, but farther from the bus depot. IMG_9603.jpeg

Building's 1,3,4 & 7 are close to the parking lot, with some rooms very close. Here is a pic by room 7119 in Bldg 7 and then by room 3148 in Bldg 3

Unless they're giving you a large discount for the inconvenience; 100% you should move. I would never stay at a resort that is going to have a major amenity closed during my stay. To us, it is definitely not acceptable.

We will save over $200 by staying at POFQ, so I think the savings is worth it for us - that's a really nice dinner or even a day at a water park which would more than make up for the pool closure. I also don't mind walking or boating to POR for a day and using that pool. I haven't stayed at POR for over a decade so it will give me a chance to check the resort out a little bit.

But I completely understand what you are talking about - we stayed at GF while VGF was being built and the pools were being remodeled. I remember my son having to walk under scaffolding to access the slide there - it was definitely not worth the $$ for that particular stay.
