Should I ride CA Screamin?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to attempt CA Screamin on our next trip. As I have gotten older, my ability to tolerate some of the more "adventurous" rides has diminished. Also, I am wondering about motion sickness. I love roller coasters but have never attempted one with a "loop" and am wondering if motion sickness is a factor with this. I am curious as to the experiences of others in my "age group" also.......Let's say near the "big 50". Things just aren't the same as when I was in my 20's or 30's ......LOL :)

California Screamin' is very fast and very long. It is also very smooth. I didn't notice the loop and it didn't give me motion sickness. I also didn't open my eyes. . .

Give it a try. DH is not one for roller coasters that go upside down. In fact he refuses to go on them. I convinced him to try CA Screamin one time and he did fine and LOVED it!

IMO the loop portion goes so fast you hardly notice it. It's still one of my favorite rides at the DL/CA complex. If you are familiar with how other coasters feel, then the loop shouldn't make that much of a difference.

I say go for it ! Its a lot of fun and you should be fine because sometimes I get a little dizzy after a ride or two, but I'm always ready for this one!

short answer is YES!!!

long(er) answer is - TOTALLY YES!!! :woohoo:

I am only a little sensitive to motion sickness-y things, but that does not diminish my love for the 'coaster. I remember being like "woahh" after I got off, but nothing too bad, and its only the one loop. yay. :)

Ca Screaming is my favourite ride in DLR. The only warning I'd throw out there is if you have a bad back. One time when I was riding it I felt my lower spine compress when the ride was going through the loop. It was only a pinch of pain and it was gone by the time the ride was over but if someone has had lower back problems it could be a problem! ;)

Just go on it, the ride is very mellow. Loops are nothing, just fun!

Get your $$ worth, ride everything! Nothing to fear except fear itself.

Can't say with regards to motion sickness because I don't have that. My dad went on it several years ago and loved it. He is over 60. I think it is a very smooth ride and the loop doesn't make you feel like you are upside down. Different things bother different people though.

I always get my money's worth, but I don't feel that you have to go on every ride to do that. And fear is not an issue. If I don't feel well after the ride (I have vertigo and want to make sure it is not affected), and other parts of my trip are affected, then that would be an issue. My main question is to people my age as to whether or not the ride was okay and enjoyable for them. Things are SO different when you are 20 or 30 as opposed to 50. :)

It's true that different things bother different people, but if your dad in his 60's liked it, then that encourages me to try it. I have loved coasters all my life but I haven't been on one in a long time, and I haven't experienced a loop yet. I have watched the video on YouTube many times and it looks like so much fun, but before I tried it, I wanted some input from some people in my generation as to their thoughts about it. Thanks for your post! :)

I say go for it. Very smooth, very safe-feeling coaster. The scariest part is the first 10 seconds. ;)

One trick that I use is to make sure the overhead bar is smashed into me very firmly. I rode 4 times in one day. I'm in my 40s. This ride is a definite not to be missed. The music coordinates with the ride. The first 10 seconds is the most intense. The launch is totally cool! How many times do you get launched up the lift hill?! Don't let fear keep you from enjoying this attraction.

Thanks for the input. I have watched the launch and it is so fast and it looks like a total adrenaline rush, which is great! I love coasters but I wasn't sure about the vertigo and motion sickness issue with the loop since that is new to me. Fear is not the issue at all.....and I can't wait to ride it!. :)

I'm very much a ride wimp but I went on because of peer pressure. I only felt the first big drop, which is the part I HATE, and the only reason I noticed the loop was because I opened my eyes for like 5 seconds.

For me, the loop is nothing. It's actually quite nice.

But the take-off is a killer. It's scary to me and comes this close to hurting me, my lungs specifically. But just as I start thinking "this is unbearable", it's over and the rest of the coaster isn't anything close to that feeling.

I'd do it, just once to see if you like it or hate it.

Oh, and I've been a bit woozy coming off of it, but not in a sick way. More like a 1.5 beers on a really really HOT day sort of way.

Though when I first went on it, it was nighttime and I, um, had just had one beer with dinner, so that wooziness was explained doubly. :upsidedow

You are too funny!:rotfl2: Maybe I'll try it without the beers......LOL.

Ditto for me. No way. I am a wimp. I have a bad back and get motion sickness and all that, so I will stick with Toy Story Mania and Pirates!

BUT...I think it sounds like the OP will be able to handle it from what everyone else is saying.

I did it once to say I had done it and hated it, will never ride it again. I kept my eyes closed the whole time and was so relieved to get off it alive.
