Should I ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

BTMRR is a very tame roller coaster. My kids have been riding it since they were about 4 years old. Of course, they also started riding Tower of Terror at 4 too :-)

Like you I want to take an "oath" to ride...TEST TRACK.....
I have never ridden Splash, SpaceM, Everest, TOT, ANYTHING scary - BUT BTMR. Please know that you can ride TT without any fear. Well, perhaps with SOME fear because I was SOOOO scared to ride it my first time. But after riding it that first time, I wondered what I had been so worried about. It is a really fun ride and I really encourage you to give it a try. I believe that you will be glad that you did. :)

My dd7 is a ride wimp, and she loved it at the age of 4! There is a similar ride at Hershey, and all of my ride wimpy kids loved it, after riding it as soon as they were tall enough. It was actually a "gateway coaster" for my kids who turned out to be thrill seekers.

I think Big Thunder is the perfect rollercoaster for people who are skiddish about them. It has milder versions of big-time coasters. Plus it's a WDW classic!

I am kind of a wimp when it comes to roller coasters, but I have always wanted to ride BTMR. How bad is it? I ride splash mountain, i rode space mountain when I was much younger, but still think I had a mild heart attack on it : ) Anyone have any thoughts??

BTMR is the perfect roller coaster for everyone. Not too extreme but enough push and atmosphere to provide a thrill.

:cheer2:

Thanks for the thread I too can't stand dips. POTC dip is border line for me, I now can stand it after the second ride into my vacation.

If you don't like dips, make sure to sit towards the front. You'll kind of hang down from the tops of hills looking down for a bit, but the dip feeling is much less extreme.

I totally agree with this as well as with the person who suggested sitting towards the front. I love rollercoasters that loop and go upside down but I really hate large drops on rides so I was a little nervous my first time on BTMRR, to make me feel better DH asked if we could sit up front. I can say that I hardly felt a thing sitting in the front, the most intense part were the corners and that was just because I would move a little in the seat. Now I actually think BTMRR is a little wimpy for my tastes but it is still tons of fun, enjoy!!

Big Thunder Mountain is the perfect coaster for a ride wimp. I hate anything with a big drop, really. DS makes me ride splash, I can't stand it, but I love BTMRR, so I say go ahead and give it a try.

I absolutely refuse to ride TOT, Rock-n-Roller Coaster, Everest, Mission Space or Space Mountain. I do ride Test Track, Splash Mountain (with sweaty palms) and BTMRR. Those 3 are the craziest I get! I think it all can be traced back to a bad experience I had at a Six Flags Coaster in 7th grade. I swore I would never do another coaster again.

Time to grow up and try stuff at least once. :thumbsup2 If you understand where your worries come from, then it may be time to face them rationally.

Anyways, the mission space green side isnt anything that folks need to be scared of unless you are afraid of small spaces. An infant could ride that ride(the green not the orange side I mean) Make that one your first on your 'to do list" and when you survive and see that you are ok, you can gain some confidence(that was robbed from you years ago) and then maybe try some more things.

Try BTMRR at least once. My mom loves this ride and will go on it every trip, yet refuses to try most other thrill rides. She has never attempted Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, TOT, Star Tours, Body Wars RIP:(, Everest, Kali River Rapids, Mission Space, or even Test Track. I did manage to drag her on Dinosaur last year but that may be her only experience. That said, she thoroughly enjoys BTM.

I am terrified of coasters and I hop right onto BTMRR with ease! It is SO MUCH fun, I promise. It does jerk you around a bit, and a few dips put air between you and the seat, but nothing extreme at all. I wouldn't lie, trust me, since I know what it's like to be afraid of rides and wouldn't want someone to lie to me. To me and my ride-hating DBF, Space Mt. is much more terrifying. The DBF is terrified of rides but loves Big Thunder. It really is just a lot of sharp turns and gravity, not huge drops or anything scary. I have never done Splash, ToT, California Screamin' (Disneyland) because of drops. Why don't you try watching videos of others' rides on it before going? I promise you'll love it if you give it a try! I suggest trying in daylight the first time. Nighttime is wonderful and a totally different experience, but I find it feels faster at night, so I would definitely go for the first time in the day. Good luck and let us know what happens!! You can do it!! :thumbsup2

If you can ride Space Mountain and Splash Mountain then you can ride Big Thunder Mountain. Like the previous people said it's not jerky like Space Mountain and the drop on Splash Mountain, I believe, is bigger than anything on Splash.

Now that being said I used to never ride roller coasters, now I love them. However, Space Mountain scares the you know what out of me!!! I'd rather ride Rip Ride Rocket, Rock n Rollercoaster, Dueling Dragons and The Mummy a million times than get on Space Mountain!!

Like everyone else has said, I think BTMRR will be fine for you. My boyfriend has never been to a theme park and is quite nervous about the rollercoasters, so I'm planning on taking him on BTMRR first to show him that they're fun! I'm hoping that he ends up enjoying the rollercoasters because I'm a massive thrillseeker (when I was 13 we ended up in HS on a really quiet day and ToT was pretty much a walk on and I rode it 7 times in a row before my parents refused to wait for me any longer!) and I want to be able to share the fun with him.

IMO BTMR is not as "radical" as Space Mountain. Much smoother. I say go for it and enjoy the ride :cool1::banana:

If you're still apprehensive, why not watch one of the videos of it on YouTube? You'll see that it's reasonably tame. Also, it tends to take the dips slow, especially if you're towards the front. The cars don't really get going until the entire train is into the dip. It's an east one and one of my favorites at the Disney parks.

I am a BIG roller coaster wimp, and I rode it twice. And I ride splash. I guess I should try space mountain?? LOL
