Should I rent a stroller???

So here it is, I just read the weather for next week and it is supposed to be so humid and hot. Yuck!! I have 2 DS, on is 4 1/2 and the other will be 7 on this trip. I had casually asked him about a month ago if he would ride in a stroller at WDW and he gave me a mortified look, like why would a kid my age do that are you crazy mom, look. So I was fine with that and decided we would rent a single if my DS4 got tired and says he doesn't want to walk anymore. He's a pretty tough little guy. But now that I have seen this weather report I'm wondering if I should just get one and force them to ride so they do not get heat stroke!!

For the younger one renting is just not cost effective. He will with very little doubt use the stroller everyday, even alot. Bring one for him. The 7 yr old may wilt by midafternoon on a particularly long day and that's when you rent one for him.

We rent a stroller every trip - kids are 5 and 8. We never used a stroller here at home but at Disney it saves us - never had a tired cranky miserable child. I think it is well worth the money - get a double, use it to store all your stuff (we bring a soft sided cooler with drinks and snacks for the day, coats for the evening...) and push the kids around from land to land. THey can walk within the land if they like but let them rest without waisting time!!!
Plus you have all you stuff with you - no need to walk to the lockers to get drinks, snacks, jackets, dry clothes, water ponchos...

I say rent! I love the strollers at Disney.. they move smoother and are very much easier to use than your regular umbrella stroller! We love them!!! Your older child will be fine in the stroller.. heck by the end of the day I am wishing I had a stroller myself for me!

Thanks for the feedback. How much are the double strollers? I think I will get it for the days we do not come back for a break. They have a shade on it don't they?

I have 3 kids - DS6, DD 4.5, DD22mos. We brought our stroller for the toddler, and then an umbrella stroller for the other two to share. That did NOT work. It was hot - and they both wanted to ride. So we rented a double - it cost $48 for 3 days (you save $2/day buy paying for multiple days). If you leave and come back you just get another stroller, you don't have to pay more.

I didn't think we'd do it but we did!

Renting a double stroller is a good idea. I am in love with those strollers! We had both of our kiddos climb in when we were in a hurry to get fastpasses or something, but otherwise they pretty much hopped in and out as they deemed neccessary.

I would highly recommend a double stroller your first day in the parks and see how your 7 year old does. We had children the same age last year. We definitely needed the double stroller. Have a great trip!

We went in March with 4-1/2 year old and a just turned 7 year old. We got the double stroller for each park. I like them for the fact they can hold all of our stuff and I know right where the kids are. Everthing is just easier to deal with for me with a stroller. It gets to be a long day and I'm glad we got them. We would go from one land to another and park the stroller and do all of our stuff and then move on. Double strollers were $18 per day but we did the multi-day rental and they were $15 per day.

When I was 7, I would have died before riding in a stroller. Kids today are such wimps! :yay:

Do you have kids? Do you actually remember how you felt at age 7? Or are you remembering how you felt at age 11? and just how does how you feel apply to all kids today?

Sorry for the rant...I just hate opinionated ridiculous posts like this.

Well I will stick up for cyberspace, I agree. We did not take or rent a stroller with our 5 yr old and he was fine-and we go commando style. Didn't take a stroller for our DD when she was 5 either and when we go this year there is no way I'll be getting a stroller for my 7yr old. Kids should have more energy than adults.

my 7 and 5 year olds did fine without a stroller. we brought an umbrella stroller for our 2 year old. I wouldn't want a disney one.. you'd probably spend 2hrs a day trying to find yours again! they move the strollers around on you in the stroller parking lots.

if renting a disney stroller.. find some way to personalize it so you can see it from a distance

Yea I do have kids! Ds (8) and DD (2) and I think its ridiculous that 7, 8 year old kids are riding in strollers. Ds has not ridden in a stroller since he was 4 at WDW. If your kids are that old and that tired that they need a stroller than its time for a break for the whole crew.

My DS makes comments all the time when we are in WDW about older kids in strollers. "Look at those lazy kids mom, they are older than me, why can't they walk?" Thats from DS's mouth not mine!

I'm not sure why this comment bothers me, but it does. My son is 7 and I will be very open-minded about him taking a turn in the stroller - if he wants to ride, he can ride, no big deal. It certainly shouldn't be anyone elses business whether he's riding or not. :confused3

OP - You'll know when you get there what is the right thing for you - hope you have a great trip! :thumbsup2

Well I just stated what my son said. And actually he didn't say it this past trip, it was when he was 6. Kids are honest and they say what they think.

Like another poster said, kids should have more energy than adults . There is no way I would push my 7 yo , now 8 yo in a stroller, nor would he want me to. To me and obviously to DS, by his comment. , its totally ridiculous.

Alright, I'm just going to play it by ear. If they need it, beg and cry for it :rotfl2: :rotfl2: then I'll get it. I think I'll rent on a day by day need since we will be taking the afternoons off at the resort.
Maybe I should just get one for myself and have them push me :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

please rent the stroller. it will make all of you happy. go to a baby's best friend. www.abbf.com you can rent a sit and stand stroller for both children. cheaper than renting one in the world. they will deliver it to your resort and pick it up the day you leave. we're doing that for my dn( she'll be 18mos in 07 when we go). ::yes:: :rainbow:

Yes, your son may have said it, but often they get their "opinions" unintentionally from their role models. ;)

OP, you know your child best. I'll be renting a double for my 4 and 6 year old to share. My kids are NOT lazy and get plenty of exercise but if I can spare them the blisters and sore feet to make for a happier experience on our trip, than I will. I see no reason for them to suffer, especially in the heat of the summer. We do stay in the parks from open until close and the kids do fine because they have a stroller (plus it gives me somewhere to put my stuff). I, on the other hand, suffer from what I call "disney numb toe disease" because I did permanent nerve damage to my big toes from too much walking last summer in disney and can no longer feel the tips of my big toes, lol! I think this year maybe the kids should push me at least for a little while! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Maybe see how your child does the first day with fresh legs and go from there.

Have fun!
