Should I purchase the Insurance that Disney offers?

I recently found out that I am pregnant:thumbsup2. We have decided that we will take our "big" kids on one final Disney trip before the baby arrives in June. After that, we will likely not be returning to Disney for 4-5 years.

Our plan is to travel in early March, so I will be around 6.5 - 7 months along. If I needed to cancel our trip due to unforseeen pregnancy complications, would Disney Insurance cover refund our trip costs after the 45 day mark? Would we receive a refund for all 4 of us, even though I am the only one that may not be able to travel? Is pregnancy a "re-existing condition", and therefore not covered? I really know nothing about the Disney Insurance, so please let me know everything

I will also be purchasing additonal Health Insurance, just in case something happens while we are in Florida.

Thanks

P.S. Just wanted to add that we are Canadian, I don't know if that matters.

Hey there - I don't have experience with Disney insurance while being pregnant, but I do with RBC. Basically, if I broke my arm or anything like that, no problem, I'm covered. If there is a pregnancy related issue that requires medical treatment - not covered. It is a pre-existing condition. I imagine all policies would be similar in this regard.

From my understanding of Disney's insurance, they will refund you everything minus the cost of the insurance if you cancel up to your trip date.

And for what's it worth - Disney's insurance does have some sort of health insurance on there, so don't double dip - insurance companies will nail you for that too. They call it a reason to deny all claims.

The policy is somewhere on the internet, it's not great coverage at all. We bought it for our last trip just for the cancellation part, but we wouldn't buy it again. Pretty sure pregnancy is a pre-existing condition, but ask. I did extensive pre-existing condition research because my dad had a pacemaker put in. I'm pretty sure they are with Travelguard for their carrier unless things have changed. & the amount they cover for pre-existing conditions is like $20,000 which won't cover much if you end up in the hospital. I know there was talk to raising that amount but I don't think they were going to raise it that much. Also the CM you book with really don't know alot about the insurance, so you're better off to talk to the actual insurer.

Also, when I was pregnant I was going to go shopping in the US & when I went to buy insurance thru CAA (Manulife) they told me they never cover the baby no matter how far along you are & they won't cover anything to do with the baby for you for 9 weeks before your due date & 9 weeks after. So if you were in an accident before your 9 weeks & you went into preterm labour, they would cover you for the accident, but nothing to do with the baby. Hence, I didn't go shopping in the states. So if you're looking to buy medical find out their policy on pregnancy.

I believe they do not cover flights originating in Canada either, only from the US. If you are flying out of Canada, you may want to look at other insurance coverage. If you're driving to the US and then flying, you probably will be covered for airfare if all other criteria are met.
Also, I think all travelling companions are covered if one can't go, assuming they approve the reason for cancellation. I think you should definately find out directly from the insurance company how they classify pregnancy complications in regards to trip cancellation. Also, as previously recommended, verify all health coverage for unborn baby.

We had bought Disney insurance in the past, and never had to use it, but they were very nice over the phone and e-mailed me their policy so I could read up on it.

I think you are correct. I think there was a thread a couple of months back about Disney's insurance not covering someone's flight because it originated in Canada.

Your best bet it to call your home/auto insurance provider and see if you can purchase travel insurance that would cover you and your family's needs.

I get my Trip Insur. from CAA. If you have questions about coverage, they will get you the answers.
