Should I or shouldn't I

We are going to WDW in October on a budget. DH told me I had to make a choice between a character meal or MNSSHP. We got the tickets for MNSSHP. As I read the boards I really want to take the kids to a character meal. My kids will be 5 1/2 (DD)and 2 1/2(DS). I don't want to miss out on the magic with my DD. Should I just make a reservation and surprise everyone that morning? DH won't be mad or upset with me in anyway if I do this. He has learned to expect the unexpected with me. Which breakfast would you pick? :earsboy:

I would suggest checking Where The Characters Dine on AllEars. It lists all the characters, where they show up and for what meals as well as any special information. Then figure which characters you want the family to meet and make your reservation accordingly.

Thanks I will check out that site. DH planned on Breakfast from home every morning. Then just play it by ear for meals at the parks between counter service or a restuarant. I remember my character dining from when I went when I was a tween and I loved it.

I would definitely do one!!! We love Chef Mickey's--- there is nothing like Mickey Mouse!!! But all of them are pretty good. And I believe they are all buffets and family style-- so DS 2 1/2 will be free (kids under 3 can share with a parent or at buffets get their own plate).

I would do one. Here's an idea. Make the lastest breakfast ressie you can get and have it as an early brunch so to speak. It's all you can eat. So load up and that way, you've effectively eliminated the need for a counter lunch and dinner. You're probably only going to want a snack or something later rather than a full meal unless you're heavy eaters. You'll spend 18 per adult for the breakfast, but instead of about 14-20 dollars on counter food, you'll only want a $3 snack. In effect, you'll be getting some of that 18 back. Refrain from eating at TGI Fridays or Chilis once the month before to make up the rest and you've effectively paid for it.
But I'd tell the DH though rather than spring it.

I totally agree with this but to offer a suggestion, go to Chef Mickey's on either a rest day or a MK (preferably their early morning magic hour) Get there early eating maybe some very light breakfast, go on all the rides while it is empty and then when it is getting hot and you are all getting tired and hungry, head out to the monorail and it is one stop to Chef Mickey's. I think the last seating is 10:20 or 10:40. Good food, fun atmosphere and the most characters.

We loved Chef Mickey's last year. I want to go again this year and try another character meal, too. My Ds loved it, was so excited and still managed to eat a decent breakfast. Have fun!

When in October are you going? First 4 days they are offering the free dining package so if you are going then I would check into it and then you won't have to worry about it because character meals are included. Also keep your eyes open if they offer the same package, or something similar for the rest of October if you are checking in after the 4th.

Chef Mickeys is a great meal for the little ones and I would suggest that also. You get to see the main characters and eat.
