Should I make a cash reservation before I call MS

If I am interested in using my pts to stay at GF or YC, should I make a cash reservation first before I call MS in case there is no availability tomorrow.

Would having a cash reservation help in anyway if they told me that hotel of my choice was sold out? Could they somehow cancel my CRO reservation and rebook with pts?

Is it worth it to do this or just wait and see what MS says is available?

If you want a back-up reservation, by all means make the cash reservation. However, it can't be converted to a points reservation by MS and there is no easy means to simultaneously cancel it and have MS grab it for you.

No harm in booking the cash reservation, but no advantage if you really intend to have a points booking.
