Should I loft my bed?

The bedroom I just moved into is pretty small, so if I loft my bed I could move my computer desk out of the den and into my bedroom. Is this something I should do? There's a ceiling fan, so I'd probably have to custom-build one that's high enough to put the desk under but low enough not to get chopped to bits. What do you guys think? Is it going to look tacky for a college grad to have a loft bed? Is it even safe for an adult-sized person (or two  ?

lol, that's my opinion, but I'm still struggling w/ the whole "post-college but most of my friends are still in college" rut- I don't know if the lofted bed thing is counter-productive in the quest to become a grown-up.

Sounds like a cool idea. My roommate, sophomore year in college, had a loft bed in our dorm room. Her mom made it out of old driftwood from their house, it was really cool. My bed was already about 30 inches off the floor, so we had room for a mini fridge and random junk under my bed. Hers was about 5 ft off the floor. I'm trying to remember what we had under it, I think it just made the room feel more open, and had more room when other friends would sleep over. In March, she tore her ACL so we had to put the standard issue bed back in, and the room was much more cramped.

I reluctantly agree with you. It is practical, but not particularly mature. It screams I LIVE THE COLLEGE LIFE. Sometimes, though, having space trumps sophisticated decor. Unless you plan to do a lot of "entertaining" they are safe. I know that IKEA makes a metal one for full-sized beds. Here in Chicago you can search "loft" on Craig's List and find a dozen of them.

My DS12 says ..."Don't hit your head on the ceiling!" and "If the ceiling has little pointy things on it it gets in the bed!"
He actually wants a captain style bed that has a pull out desk on it. He says he is fed up with his loft bed.
Personally, as an adult, I won't get up there. Too scary!!!:scared1:

I don't think I could ever do that. I wouldn't want to climb up there or be up there if I was feeling sick.
