Should I keep on trying for SOA Luau?

I was able to get all my ADRs for my upcoming trip in August except for the SOA Luau. I really thought doing the luau for our first day there would be a nice “kick-off” to our vacation, especially since we’re staying at the Polynesian; but, there are no availabilities for the 5:15pm show (for a party of 6 – 5 adults & a 1 yr old) for either category. I booked dinner at Kona as our back-up, which I’ve heard really good reviews about; but, it will not be as special as a dinner show. I’ve tried calling back a few times now to see if the luau is available; but, have had no luck yet.
My question is, should I even bother trying to get into the luau (Do people tend to cancel dinner show reservations since they have to give a CC? Is it even worth the 2 dining credits? Will it be fine for my 1 year old?) or should I keep the Kona dinner reservations instead? I’m so torn about this!

I got the ADR I wanted for Spirit of Aloha, but it was towards the end of our week and for the 8:00 dinner, so maybe that was easier.

It wouldn't have bothered me that much if I had not gotten ADRs, because you can book two more TS meals to replace it. Like you, I'm not so sure Spirit of Aloha is worth 2 credits given the mixed reviews, but I like to try everything at least once for myself.

Have you tried seeing if you can split your party and get two smaller tables? Just a thought.

no, I haven't tried splitting the parties and doing two seperate reservations. Will they let me do that for a dinner show ressie? I'll try that and see if anything shows as open.
