I have applied for the new Disney Visa Card. I have a Disney Credit Card. I would like to start a discussion of the pros and cons of each card and any reasons for keeping or getting rid of either card.

Where has this post gone? Why? Under JUST FOR FUN > Rumers and news

I hope they move this back to the DVC board, because you have asked a DVC related question. I DID get the DVC Disney Visa, and it just arrived yesterday. I haven't read all the perks yet, but I am not sure it will have many for DVC owners.

I don't see a connection to the DVC board, that is Disney Vacation Club, not Disney Visa Card. But anyway....

I don't know why you would use the DCC over the new Visa. It offers no rewards and has higher interest rate if you do carry a balance. I'm not aware of any up-front discount advantages to the DCC, but I could be wrong. I have the old DCC card, but only used it once.

The old purple DCC was only good for Disney purchases, wasn't it? I have one and only seemed to use it in the DStores.
The new VISA is the subject of many long threads on this forum. Just do a search and you'll find all you need to know--probably more !
Quite frankly, the subject has been done to death since we first got notification of the DVC.

Personally I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the Disney Credit Card and replace it with the Visa. I know many stores are doing this.

As for pro's and con's of each, I can only see the one pro of the Disney Visa and that being the rewards dollars. I can not see any pro's or con's for the other card.

I cancelled my old purple Disney Credit Card when I got the new Visa in the mail. When I mentioned this to a castmember in a Disney Store, she was so surprised since the new visa is supposed to replace the Disney Club and not the old credit card. I told her I didn't have a need to two Disney Credit cards especially when one didn't offer any perks. She said that you get special mailings and coupons for having the old card. I never got anything like what she said, and I have had that card since it came out. She also said they are keeping both credit cards and not doing away with the old one like we thought.

Has anyone else received any of the "perks" for the old Disney Credit Card she talked about?

Not me.

The only thing I received that might have been because of the Disney credit card is the Disney Catalog. Not exactly a perk though...

To be fair, I think I only used the card once or twice.

This is really neither Rumor or News, so I'm moving it to the community board, where I'm sure it will get a broader response.

Hi - We have the old Disney Credit Card too and use it for all of our Disney purchases including trips. We pay off the balance when we receive the bill because of the high interest rates. Through the years, we have charged several thousand dollars of trips on the card and never once did we receive any special offerings or perks for using the card. I was going to keep the old card because my husband and I agree that we will never go into debt again. We only have one VISA that we keep for an emergency and other than that use our debit card. Hope we are not missing out on special offers by not getting the new visa but from what I have read you have to charge a minimum of $150 for a purchase to earn any dollar rewards.

I will keep my Disney card because there have been so many fun versions of the cards and they are so much more disney than the Visa.
I have the original purple, 25th anniv hologram, Animal Kingdom commenortive opening, and the DCA/Disneyland one that just came out last year. I got pins with some of them too. :smooth:

I, like you, am totally in the dark as to what the DS clerk is saying about the "perks" of the purple card. If a few lines of written verbiage about upcoming new events or maybe a special mailing once in a blue moon are what she's touting, then I can say, yes, I've seen that.
As far as points adding up to anything, the purple card had nothing. The only perk I got was through the club membership's 10% discount on WDW or DS purchase and then I'd use the purple card to charge.
And the new Visa is NOT a replacement to the DC membership card. That's been hashed and re-hashed on other threads. This Visa is a separate line of credit that (carelessly) has been represented to many people as just a replacement. Thus, some folks credit has been all screwed up because they didn't realize that by adding a new card and, say , cancelling another, will impact their credit ratings. Also, transferring balances has fees associated.
I agree that we all have responsibility to knowing what we're getting into, but there was a bit of Disney hype about the Visa being a replacement, which it is not.
