Should I keep ADR for Akershus RBH?

Hi everyone! I need some advice. When I asked my son who he wanted to eat with at Disney this year, he said Ariel. I booked Akershus RBH for lunch because I couldn't get a ressie for breakfast. I am not sure that we will enjoy the Norwegian cusine at lunch or dinner. Also, we might not get to see Ariel since the princesses are on a rotating schedule. Should I cancel the ressie and just take him to Ariel's Grotto at Magic Kingdom to see her? Should I keep the reservation or try to get one for breakfast? What are everyone's thoughts/reviews on Akershus RBH? Thanks for your help in advance. :confused3

We had dinner there in June and it was very good. We had the Kjottkaker for an entree that was just like a meatloaf and served with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes. Dessert sampler was good as well. My DH and DS16 are not very adventurous eaters and they really liked the meal there.

We did have Ariel at our meal, but of course there is no guarantee who will be there. Everyone has different opinions about food, you know your palate the best. We liked it so much, we will do again next year.

Have a great trip!:)

When I called Disney Dining this morning to see if I could get breakfast reservations, the castmember I spoke with told me that Ariel is usually not scheduled to be at Akershus RBH for breakfast. She is usually there at lunch and dinner. That being said, I am not sure that we will enjoy the Norwegian cusine. I would appreciate any reviews/opinions on this restaurant. Should I cancel the ressie and just take him to Ariel's Grotto at Magic Kingdom to see her?

We've ate here twice, a couple of weeks ago was the most recent. It was really good! My husband had the meat loaf type dish and I had the pasta, sooooo good! The cold buffet has meats/cheeses/salads/fruits and is quite good too. The kids were very happy with the selection on the kids menu.
The Princess's we saw this last time were Belle (in the lobby), Cinderella, Jasmine, Aurora and Ariel.

We had dinner there last year and it was very good. All of the entrees are actually pretty much just variations of things you see on most WDW menus - I'm not really sure how Norwegian most of it is. And the cold buffet as a starter is excellent (I could have made a meal of just the stuff on that - lots of salads, fresh cold cuts, and smoked salmon :cloud9: ).

As far as cancelling, I wouldn't. You asked your son who he wanted to eat with and he said Ariel and this is the only meal where you might possibly see her. If it turns out she is not there, you have Ariels grotto to fall back on, but I think you probably will see her. We saw her at our dinner and it seems from what I read that most people see her there, too.

Go and enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the awesome information! I found some pics posted of the characters and meals at Akershus. The food does look very appetizing! But, after seeing the picture of Ariel in her ballgown, I am not sure that my son (3) will recognize her this way. Therefore, I will take him to Ariel's Grotto at MK and The Voyage of the Little Mermaid at HS instead. Thanks, everyone for your insight and help. :thanks:

My boys are newly in love with Ariel as well so I am debating on the two options. Thanks for all the info!

We really like Akershus and I just wanted to mention that you can always ask to have an entree slightly "modified" (without sauce or with a substitute side) Also, an adult may order an "adult portion" of a kids meal like cheese raviolis. :goodvibes

We ate there last week, and it was one of dh's favorite meals. FYI - this was our third lunch there, and they've all been really good (Ariel has been at every lunch for us).

The girls had a hotdog and pizza. I had the adult sized portion of a kid meal: grilled chicken, boiled potatoes, and corn. Dh ate the dish that was like meatloaf. He really enjoyed it.

The buffet was loaded with fresh fruit, salads, and cold cuts. They brought lovely hot rolls to the table. Dessert was a trio of different things. My younger dd loved the rice pudding dish.

We'll be booking an ADR there next year for sure!
