Should I get an account with MDE?

I've read too many threads about the ills of the MDE website, so I haven't signed myself up. My DVC online account works great, and I can log in to the regular old Disney website to make ADRs just fine. I've been avoiding learning about FP+ until the kinks are worked out and people have experiences to share.

I haven't taken the plunge and signed up for MDE because I thought some people were having problems with the DVC site after that. I just don't trust Disney IT.

Our trip is in 49 days (!!!), and I'm wondering if I should sign up for MDE. Will FP+ be live by then? I don't need help organizing my ADRs or anything, and I don't want to jeopardize my ability to see the DVC online website.

Any DVC-ers want to give me advice on if I should sign up or just keep waiting? Thanks!

I didn't think that any one accessing disneyworld.com from within the US got the regular old disney website anymore. I thought everyone now got the MDE version of disneyworld.com.

Most of the problems I've read about occur when guests are trying to book 180+10 ADRs and do not have everything properly linked together. They try to book ADRs...find that they are unable to do so...and then end up scrambling to get everything set up correctly.

Other times people tried to buy DVC APs in a hurry (before price increase) and again couldn't get their MDE account and DVC membership linked together to access the lower pricing.

Honestly I see no reason NOT to get your account set up now. It isn't going to cancel any of your hotel or dining reservations. And if FP+ is rolled-out, you will be ready to make your ride reservations.

If you decide not to get it set-up now, you risk having problems if FP+ is announced for your trip and you're in a rush to get the ride times booked. IMO, it's better to work through the process now when there is no sense of urgency.

And FWIW, I had no problems linking all of my stuff together. Pulled up a December DVC reservation a few weeks back and it gave me the full 180+10 ADR booking window.

I don't mean to hijack the thread. But. I recently subscribed to the new mde site and now I am no longer able to login to my dvc account. Member services are supposed to be looking into this. It has been a week and a half. Have you heard what the fix is?

I'm having trouble linking everything because it turns out DVC has the room reservation under DH's name, even though I made the actual reservation, and since I set up the MDE account and made a few dinner reservations, those show up on MDE. DH is the first name on our DVC contract. This makes sense to me, but I never considered it.... just assumed I could link the room by the reservation #.
Anyone else deal with this? I know I should have called DVC, but just didn't bother with it yet. Wonder if this will affect on line check in.

No problem at all logging into the DVC site.

If you both have different last names, use his when you link the reservation to MDE if he ends up getting listed first. The reservation system tends to change the order of guests. It's done that with ours also. If you get it linked to MDE, on line check in will not be an issue since there will be a link once you reach 60 days.

Have you tried clearing your temp. files and signing out of any other Disney websites you may be signed into? See if that works..or maybe try a different browser.

I was able to list all three of our DVC reservations in MDE even though only one of them is in my name and we used two different (owned) DVC contracts to book the rooms. I just keyed the reservation numbers into the "link reservations" option. All three reservations show on the MDE site and my iPad app.

We just got back from Disney. Twice we had to get new PAPs and 3 x we had to get new room keys. Our dinning plan was messed up as well. Each time the CM. said it was due to linking with MDE. There are some glitches still occurring.

For our next trip in Sept MDE has the 2 guests for BLT as Steve **** and Steven ****. Both DH. :lmao: For the rest of the trip at BWV it does list the correct people, there will be 4 of us then.

The split stay in Sept is on our points and we are renting a confirmed reservation in Nov/Dec from another member. Oddly enough, MDE has linked these reseravtions. Yay!!

When I put the app on my new iphone I had a very hard time trying to navigate it but it's getting easier. Recently found the wait times for the parks.....if that was there before I didn't realize it since I'm a bit of a techno-dunce.

I say go ahead and get it. They will get all the kinks ironed out.....eventually.

Oh my I think one husband is bad enough not sure I could cope with two.

I've had an MDE account since it started and it's really not an issue for me. I did have to go online and make sure my email and cell phone number are the same for both accounts. (though I do have different log in names, one with a name and the other with an email). I've used the MDE in January and May during those trips and it's been fine. I love being able to cancel my dining or make a new one while sitting at the pool. I love being able to check my dining times right from my cell phone. Keep in mind that when I make a room reservation I do have to manually link them into the MDE account which is easy to do. I even have my daughters reservation on my MDE account. As for logging in and not being able to log into the DVC account, that is generally because your computer sees you logged into another account and was not logged out. As mentioned, if you go to your tools and dump your temp files, that generally will fix that problem (happened to me just yesterday when I clicked out instead of logging out of MDE). I've linked my friends and family members to MDE account too. The only thing I've not done is link my AP to the FP+ account. However when I check my profile on MDE my AP and my DVC account are affiliated with me on my profile. Linking my AP to the FP+ account makes me a little nervous because it says that once I link it I can't "unlink" it, so waiting to see if FP+ goes live by our October trip. OP, if you want to participate in FP+ you will need to have an account, you should do it now so that you get use to using it.

We are the same have been using MDE since Christmas time with no real problems. All our DVC were linked for February and we did online check in through it. We booked all our August ADRs through it and again have all our DVC linked. We can cancel ADRs and book more easily it all works. I think it does depend on you IP address though as to how well it works.

Wait times have always been in the MDE app, but in the newest version they are easier to find since they've added the menu option for them. And unlike the old Disney Parks/Verizon Mobile Magic app, MDE will show wait times even when you are not in a theme park (you can check wait times from home).

Thanks for all the replies and additional questions. It adds to the dialogue. I wish I could respond to each of you individually, but there's no telling how long my son's nap will last! :lmao: So, I'll just say - I guess I'll go for it.

I don't remember what site I went to to make the dining reservations; it probably was some form of MDE, but I haven't bothered to link with our dvcmember.com account. I'll go and try and see what happens. You'll be the first to hear if all heck breaks loose.

So, I feel a little stupid now. I was able to easily pull up my Boardwalk reservation on MDE. It already had my three ADRs on there. I haven't tried to link my PAP yet, but at least everything is under one place. I guess I've been fretting over nothing. :upsidedow Story of my life.
