Should I get AAA?

We are not members of AAA and I am not sure what the discount would be if we signed up. We would like to stay at the Pop June 1-7 with dining plan, no water parks or hoppers. The price I got on Disneys website is 2187. Can AAA save me more money than the price of the membership? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

AAA membership could save you 15% on the room portion only, not the package, but it could be substantial. We book all of our Disney trips through AAA and save quite a bit and you get a few perks as well. Besides, having AAA is great if you have car trouble, I've used mine many times. We have a great AAA TA and prefer to go through her anyway, the couple times we've tried to go through Disney central res. it's been a total hassle. I can email my TA with all the info. including requests and dining and she takes care of it all.

June 1-7 would be "summer season" for Pop and from what I have read
you can usually get up to 15% off at the Value resorts (assuming of course there are any AAA discounts available - I am not sure if there is a limit on number of rooms eligible).

So if that is the case, as long as the room rate works out to more than $334.00 total (or $56.00 per night) you would be better off getting AAA (as I remember it is about $50 a year)

One thing you do need to keep in mind - the AAA room only discount can not be combined with any of the packages that are offered so as a result it is not always the best deal, but one worth looking into.

For what its worth - we are using the AAA discount for our trip this summer and have used it a number of times in the past.

My AAA branch (AAA South) doesn't offer packages year round. I assume that AAA in other areas of the country are the same. I plugged your dates into the AAA South website for POP and the rates that came up were the same as rack rates: Standard room $109 (Sun - Thur), 119 (Fri-Sat). -Preferred room $121 (Sun-Thur) $131 (Fri-Sat). You can go to the AAA website and check the rates for yourself. You don't have to login to look at the rates. Even if a AAA membership doesn't benefit you for this trip, I would recommend it if you travel much. Besides Disney savings, I save a lot of money on hotels and attraction tickets throughout the year.

We are staying June 7-13th, I orginally booked Pops with a AAA discount, it was only 10% and it was for room only. I purchased AAA just to get the discount. Overall, I was only saving $40-50, but I also figured I was getting AAA coverage for the roadtrip to Disney as well.

I understand that they only allow so many rooms for AAA discounts, so you may not want to wait to long before booking. You can also get a quote through your AAA agent. Maybe you can check with reservations to see if they still have AAA rooms available before purchasing AAA.

:tinker:

I bought AAA two weeks ago, and four days after I paid $45 for it, I emailed my DU agent with my membership number and she got me $63 off a three night stay at POP in Sept. Figure it's already paid for itself.

to be able to use it for a Disney discount that's a real added bonus. I'm doing it for my Dec 2008 trip.

Also, I feel next year (2009) AAA may not get these kinds of Disney discounts anymore. I started thinking about this the other day and with seeing so little public codes being offered direct from Disney this year I feel AAA's new negoitations for next year with Disney are going to change for the worse. Why would Disney give AAA such an advantage over themselves for vacation discounts? I think this year was a done deal; so, we can still use the good discounts offered by AAA.

I really don't think for your time period you can go to wrong with AAA. Also, you can experiment with other features and offers that AAA offers for the 2008.

AAA was about $400 for us for the Poly in August. We've saved that much the last 3 years in a row. If there are no other discounts, AAA is good.

As for 2009, who knows what will happen. I expect to see deals through Costco because Costco travel has discounts for the DCL and DL. If the AAA deal is up, then they'll probably muscle in there as well.

AAA is the way to go we are saving over $600 by going through them.
We got the discount code for DEC,but we are going to 11 days and would have to make 3 different res. What a headache, you can't just book all 11 days. But with AAA we were still able to save more than we would have with the code.

It depends on the resort and the length of stay.

If you're planning a quick 2 night trip to a value resort, then the 10% off may not pay for the price of membership. The price of membership varies with your location.

For us, it represented a great savings, not to mention all the roadside assistance benefits throughout the year.

I just booked throught AAA (room, dining and tickets) and when she sent me my reservation it had a bunch of stuff on there like meal vouchers to planet hollywood meal and merchandise, miniature golf, sea raycer voucher. Does anyone know if I can take this off my reservation to save me money??? I don't need these things.

I think they're "complimentary" and part of the package. But give it a shot!

I think AAA is worth it. The discounts are good, especially when you don't have a code from Disney. Because I'm a control freak, I will not use AAA travel agents. I book directly through Disney for a room only discount. R
