I've been lucky enough to work for a very big international investment bank during my holidays from college (for two years). It's just secretarial temp work.
I've made quite a name for myself there and they've always been impressed with me. Some very senior management suggested that I apply for their graduate programme. I did a HUGE amount of networking and everyone I met was so supportive.
My school grades don't quite meet their requirements but they assured me this wouldn't matter and they'd ensure my application wasn't automatically rejected because of my grades.
However, that did happen (I know it was automatic because I submitted my form online on a Saturday and received a rejected on the Sunday).
I can only assume that they didn't keep to their word and my application did slip through the system (I know no-one saw my application because it was the weekend, so it can't have been rejected for any other reason).
It seems so unfair because for the six months I was there I received nothing but total support. I know that this support was genuine because someone accidentally emailed me a whole bunch of stuff they'd been saying about me. Now I've emailed all those people who supported me to ask if they knew why I got rejected AND NOT A SINGLE PERSON REPLIED!
I haven't got a clue whether or not I should take this further. I worked myself into the ground there to make a good impression and even bought gifts to thank all the people that had helped me!
