Should I even bother taking pins to trade

I've got some limited edition DisneyWorld from years 2000 to 2004; is it worth it to drag allthe way out to California in the hopes of trading for some Ltd. Edition Caliornia pins?

Also can you trade Disney Store pins with the CM's on the lanyards?

Yes, I would take a couple...you will find plenty of opportunity to trade at DL...best spot is at the pin store near Buzz Lightyear.

We've never had a problem trading the DS pins w/CMs

Oh...and first Sunday of month is pin day so you find lots of those crazy pin people at the tables outside the pin store waiting to trade.

I have just been bitten by the pin bug, and as a totally clueless newbie, I'd appreciate some advice:

I've decided to collect castle pins (not sure if I'll stay with just DL or include the other resorts), and on ebay I've seen these "princess in front of the castle" pins from 2002 (I think) that I just love. My question: should I wait until our visit in early Aug. to see what I can possibly trade for/pick up at the stores in DL? Or are those pins particularly hard to come by, and I should get them while I can off of ebay?

The average price seems to be $8.50 per pin, not including P & S.

What advice does anyone have for me?

I have no idea about those particular pins. If you see people are bidding on them then I would think they are hard to come by and you won't see them on lanyards, they you should try and get them. . I can tell you if you're buying from Disney while you are there, there pins run from $6 to $10 and up. Do you have any of the old Disney store pins that went from $4.00 to $5.00 that you can use as trade with a CM? Otherwise it gets kind of expensive to buy $8.00 pins just to trade away.

I don't know much about pin "value" since my family does the pin trading for fun (but have found out my DD has traded for some very limited edition pins so now has a high value collection by accident)....but here is my two cents...I have seen some of the princess/castle ones you are talking about, but not ever on the CMs for trading. Most of the time, princess or tinkerbell pins seem hard to find on CMs and I have had several tell me that those go quickly. If you really like them and they are priced reasonably, I would say get them off ebay. I believe in the stores when these were for sale they ran about $8-$10 so $8.50 would be a very fair price.

When we were there two weeks ago....here is what we saw on CMs:
plenty of the cheapy 50th pins (golden mickey head w/50 inside it) but you can buy these for $6.50 in the same store
several ones of Figment and/or lesser known Disney characters like the cat from Pinocchio
a couple of the xmas counting series ones (ie 2 calling birds)
some of the USA mickey heads

did not see:
princesses
minnie mouse

Mary Anne, yes I bought lot of 22 pins for $45.00 specifically for trading when we go in August. I thought 11 each for the two of us would be plenty for trading, what do you think? I'm also going to be a collector, and for that reason I'm keeping a look out for those princess/castle pins. You're so right about not trading the more expensive pins!

Hi - We just got back from DL last night, just a day trip for us. I was amazed at how many cast members were wearing lanyards. A lot! Even the guy checking for fastpasses on the Buzz ride had one on. Maybe it's because it is summer?

Funny, I don't go to Disneyland to ride on rides or even to see the shows. I just enjoy being there for the atmoshere, hanging out with family, meeting up with friends. We each have our own reasons for visiting the park. To many people Pin Trading is a hobby and they enjoy doing their hobby at the "happiest place on earth".
