Should I drop Hollywood Brown Derby or Flying Fish?

My ADR date opens next week, and I thought I had it all planned and ready to book!! BUT - Now I’m getting questioning it all and have changed it about a little bit again (typical!). The changes have meant that I am now a couple of table service credits over my dining plan limit, and I want to try and avoid doing this – and only pay OOP for the occasional appetizer / and off-site meals.

I’ve decided the best way to cut back, is to swap one of the signatures I was planning on for a regular table service. I had planned on going to California Grill, Citricos, Hollywood Brown Derby and Flying Fish. Now California Grill + Citricos is non negotiable – I must go there!!

But I have decided to drop either Hollywood Brown Derby or Flying Fish for alternatives.

So, it will either be:
Instead of Flying Fish go to Cape May Café Buffet or Instead of Hollywood Brown Derby go to 50s Prime Time Diner.

Any thoughts / recommendations would be sooo helpful! Whether one of the signatures is a must do / not so must do. Or if you think I should try somewhere else (one in Boardwalk and one in DHS).

Just to mention Its just me and DBF going.

IMO, nothing is "must do". Take a look at the menus and see what food interests you more. Keep the atmosphere in mind as well. Do you feel like the playfulness of 50s PTC or would you prefer a quiet relaxing meal (HBD)? Do you want to be served your meal (FF) or would you enjoy a buffet (CMC)? I think the atmosphere more than the food would drive my decisions as long as the food at all of the restaurants appeals to you.

Thank you for your comment, I've been spending the past few...MONTHS! going over menus, you know how it is - and they all sound lovely :lmao:

I know what you mean about atmosphere - and the reality is i really don't mind, I like the sound of it all and I'm indecisive - hense my question just to see what other people would do!!

Flying Fish is better than Brown Derby. I enjoy both restaurants, both I think FF is quite a bit better.

I see you are on the dining plan. If so, then definitely drop Brown Derby. It's not a good use of dining plan credits there because the prices are lower (but not quite low enough to qualify as a 1TS restaurant). You will get more value out of using those credits at FF.

If you want the Fantasmic pkg then stick with Brown Derby. and then you get an Appitzer too. Brown Derby is my Favorite place at WDW. but we had a good meal at Flying Fish.

I'd keep Flying Fish over Brown Derby.... actually, I'd keep Flying Fish over anything! It's my favourite signature restaurant, and DH's too :goodvibes

Just came back last week and Flying Fish was the best meal of the trip, everyone in my family really enjoyed it

We have never eaten at Flying Fish (yes, Nicki....one of these days), but we were not impressed with Brown Derby at all and probably won't go back (bad service, mediocre food for the price).

LOVED FF my last trip best meal I've ever had on property!!!

The last time we had dinner at CMC we were kicking ourselves for not going to FF instead. I know there are lots who love CMC and we had some good experiences there but, IMHO the quality at FF far outweighs CMC...and the price is not much different.

If you're doing the DDP that may be a different story but for almost the same cash price we could have shared an app and gotten an entree and a kids meal at FF for the same cost as the CMC buffet and if we added the crab legs, well then we could have gotten 2 regular entrees at FF for the same...

FF has been consistently excellent and we try to get there as much as we can, so ENJOY!:thumbsup2

Feel free to check out a DISer review of FF on my dining website: www.disneydiningreviews.com

Just to make your life more difficult..........Cape May is just a short boat ride away from DHS. I'D drop HBD and substitute Cape May, not 50s PT. I can make pot roast at home. I can't make endless crab legs (which are part of the 1 TS buffet, not an up-charge) and oreo bon-bons.

We've done the Fantasmic pkg for the past 3 years at HBD. The food is good, but not amazing. This year, in Sept, we've decided to try Mama Melrose for F! and Flying Fish (in place of Narcoosees). HBD's atmosphere, while worth at least one visit, is not so impressive that we can not bring ourselves to miss it. I think I'm over Narcoosees as well. The food has declined in the past three years. Hope we enjoy these changes when we go in Sept. We re-tried Cape May last year and will definetly be back in 2011!
