hi brides!

i'm thinking that I'll just do my own hair and makeup for the wedding.... I feel like I'm pretty good at the makeup thing and my sister actually can do my hair really well....

but I'm wondering.. are the vendors for hair and makeup THAT good? maybe I should consider giving them a shot. It would be nice to relax and sit in a chair while someone does my makeup and stuff.... I guess it'd be worth it for that alone huh?

also, I don't normally wear a lot of makeup ... never any lipstick.... and usually just play up my eyes... if I told them I wanted a more natural look but something that would stand up to the september florida heat.. they could accomidate me right? I'd just hate to have someone do my makeup then end up having too much on and not looking like me, you know?

thanks!

I had originally planned to do this. I am still doing my own makeup, but the hair is a different story.

My suggestion is you and your sister should sit down and do a few trial runs fo your hair. See how you feel about the outcomes. Then make your decision. Like I said i originally planned on doing my own haor with my sis's help as well, but after a few trial runs decided it would be less stressful and less hassle to have a pro come in and do it.

But.....as far as makeup goes, I am still doing that on my own. I suggest going to a MAC store or counter and having a trial. They give you step by step instructions and write them down for you. I think all they ask is that you spend $40.00 on products afterward.........which is VERY easy to do with MAC. It is the absolute BEST makeup I have ever tried and I swear by it! I know for a fact that makeover majic (one of the orlando services) uses only MAC makeup. So you would be paying them for something you can easily do on your own.

Good Luck!

Hi

I am doing my own makeup too but am leaving the hair up to the professionals. But am planning on doing it myself for the MK shoot.

I agree with Tink MAC products are fantastic they have such a wide variety of colours to suit everyone. I also love Clinique make up and will be wearing a mixture of the two on the day.

Good luck and am sure you'll look fab either way.

I'm doing my own makeup, I wear bare minerals, and cannot wear any other kind of make up. It is easy enough to apply, so I'm not going to ask for any help with that. I was also going to do my hair, but then df said he would like see it put up. So, I am going to get someone to come in an do it.

I'm planning on doing both hair and makeup myself. I plan on going to the MAC store and having them show me how to do it. I also plan on working with my hair stylist on something that I can do. I'm weary about having someone else do it, because I don't know if I'm goingn to make it down to Disney before the wedding for a trial run with the pros. I'd rather know everything is all set and that I can do it myself.

Ooooo...I went through this exact same dilemma.

I was going to do both my make-up and my hair myself. I even bought fancy schamcy hot rollers and practiced like every weekend. But I just wasn't happy with what I was doing.

Two of my friends, who were recently married, urged me to hire someone...because, they said, "these pictures will last you a lifetime, do you really want to regret not having a professional"

So I hummed and hawed and posted here....and obsessed. But in the end I knew they were right. I booked Anna from Makeover Majic just 1.5 months before my wedding....and boy am I glad that I did. I could have never done what she did. And when the humidity (90% on Jan 4th) was wreaking havoc, she knew exactly what to put in to make it look nice.

I'm so glad that I hired a professional to do my hair.

Conversely, I'm very glad I did my own make-up. I've always been uncomfortable with the idea of having someone else do my make-up. I like to use my own products that I know are sensitive enough for my skin.

I treated myself to make-up lessons in this great place called Gee Beauty (located in Yorkville Toronto). Not only did I love my make-up on my wedding day, now I have quality products that give a professional look for work.

Geez, I sound like an infomercial.

I hope this helps!

thanks for all the replies and suggestions everyone!

I think I'll do my own makeup for sure and just maybe have a demonstration somewhere and buy some really good, upscale stuff. I've been wanting to buy some really good name brand makeup anyway, so the wedding gives me an excuse to do so! and I'll just keep practicing with it so I'll know exactly how to do it on the day of!

as for the hair... I wish I could have my sister practice with me, but we live in different states! I guess I'll just have to practice doing it myself and as it gets closer decide if I want it done professionally. I want it down with the sides up and some flowers or pearl pins in my hair with soft curls, so it should be pretty easy to do myself.. I'll just see how the practice sessions go.

thanks everyone!

I wished I had done my makeup myself... my colors werent right and i didnt have on enough eye-liner (not that im a huge eyeliner freak.. but i almost look like im sick or something if i dont have it on right).

Oh well... you can see the transformation here...

When I do my own makeup...

I know in the photos you cant see a big change-- but maybe my face says enough about how I feel about it? Ya know? I wish I had a real close up of me with makeup on- ill do some searching.

I just felt unhappy about it... because unless you get a trial run done with makeup-- the makeup artist wont really know what you like, dont like, how you usually wear it, etc.

As for hair-- I dont think I could have done my hair on my own... although I wasnt happy with it either. I would certainly recommend a trial run-- or taking LOADS of photos of exactly what you want.

Sorry ... my .02 cents isnt exactly like everyone elses...:confused3

GL- regaurdless... you will look STUNNING!

maggimus,

I can see a difference.. and thanks for your opinion .. I'm glad it's not like everyone else's! See, that's exactly what i'm afraid would happen.. I'd pay someone to do my makeup and then end up not liking it or washing my face and doing it all over myself anyway. :sad2:

thanks again and thanks for sharing the pictures.. you're too adoreable!

I really am glad I can help you out. I hate to be discouraging on these boards... or anything to the like-- but seriously! When i was planning my DFTW I wanted very honest opinions. I had trouble with my hair and makeup vendor when everyone else seems to have really enjoyed her. I am not a complainer... or one of those people who just enjoys making a stink over things (Which is the reason i pretended like i liked what the vendor did, said thanks, paid, and then complained afterward to my mom). I had no other problems with the wedding, or leading up to the wedding. I just know how i look.... and when i dont look like myself-- i know it!

Good Luck :goodvibes although you wont need it!

it's one day.

the pictures will be around forever

it might be very stressful on the day of your wedding if you can't get your hair or make up to look right!

i hardly ever wear makeup and i never do my hair -- too lazy -- but on THIS day of all days, I'm getting dolled up

:)

I considered doing it myself, but just figured I’d spend way more time and get all hot and sticky in the process...Plus it was nice to have all the girls hanging out getting ready...

Just a tip if you decide to do it yourself please take some sample (outdoor/indoor) pictures first....what looks good in person can look funny on film....

We had an early morning wedding. 9am to be exact because it was in Epcot. I am not concious in the morning, therefore it made perfect sense to have someone else do my hair and makeup. I love what Lisa Pena did for me. I am so pale that I am practically albino sometimes! =) It was nice not to have to worry about the makeup and hair. Regardless of the way you go, I would defiantely do a trial run. If you use someone else, you can see their work on you, and if you do it yourself you can see how long it will take you. Quite honestly, the only thing I wanted to do the morning of our wedding was relax.
