Should I consider doing this?

We are waitlisted right now for BCV or BWV for a two bedroom the last week in September. My parents are coming down for the last three days of our trip so MS suggested trying for a two BR for the entire week instead of a one BR the first 3 nights and then adding a studio for the last three nights since availability of the studio wasn't likely (plus we all wanted to be at the same resort). If we were able to get a two BR which is one bedroom and lockoff studio combined we would have pretty much the studio empty for the first three days. I'm not sure of any family who could come use it those three days, and I don't really want to vacation with any friends or aquaintances. Should I try to rent those three days out or just enjoy the vast amount of space we might end up with. Any thoughts or suggestions?

I don't think you want to share a condo with strangers do you? When the unit is rented as a 2-bedroom the connecting door is unlocked. I think you would need to have DVC re-lock the door and they might question why, if they'll do it at all. I think that's a grey area to rent out the studio portion of a 2-bedroom while you are using it. JMHO.

I'm not sure if there any dedicated 2-bedrooms at BWV -- that would be a total problem since there would be only one entrance and just a regular room door.

Oh, I didn't realize that DVC locked it or unlocked it, I thought it was one of those where it locked from both sides and each occupant unlocked them. We'll just be happy if we get it at either of the two and not worry about it.

We have stayed in two-bedroom lockoffs at OKW and BWV a number of times. We have always unlocked the connecting doors from both sides ourselves.

Even if both doors were unlocked and open, occupants on either side have the option of locking the door from their side.

This January we had a lock off at OKW for the first week and the 1br portion of it for the second week. WE locked the door between ourselves on the changing week. It locks from both sides, but if the other side is locked you can't open it. I would agree with Pam that this would be a grey area. Other timeshares do that regularily, but not sure DVC condones it. The nice thing about the lock off with family and friends, is that they can be totally private if they want to be.

Keep in mind that even though you can lock and unlock your side of the connecting doors, the room keys you receive at check in will open both the 1 bedroom unit and the studio unit hallway doors. You may be able to request that they be keyed separately. I've never asked so I don't know if this is ever done for a 2 bedroom reservation.

BTW, there are no dedicated 2 bedroom units at BWV. They are all lock offs.
