I just heard that all disney resorts are full for the month of august. I am going august 19-22. It was the perfect week for me because it was the week before classes start at FAU (where i go) and I figured it would not be that busy because middle schools and high schools go back on the 20th. But if every resort is full then i was wrong. Am I going to hate it when i go? I dont mind the weather at all, ( I am a south floridian for 21 years) I just cant stand waiting in lines over 90 minutes. Should I change it to september, would it be worth missing 2 days of class and pushing my anticipation back? thanks

I'm going Aug 5th and I called Disney yesterday to see if I could possibly upgrade my resort from mod to deluxe. The person I spoke to chuckled and told me that all the resorts were fully booked (she said until at least Aug 19th). I said, "Does that mean Disney is going to be crowded?" She said the only reason that they are that booked up is because they have been moving people out of AKL due to construction and also because they had one wing down. Maybe it won't be that bad.:confused3

The closure at AKL, while having an impact, is only one reason for the fullness in August. Travel is on an upswing.. this is Disney's best year in a few years.. So .. you can't blame it ALL on AKL.

I'm kinda surprised that person did.

We used to go in Aug as kids. The lines were always super long and it was very hot. As an adult, I always try to book during value season.

Its up to you. If it means waiting a year for another vacation, I'd make the most of it. Try looking on Expedia or another site for rooms. I was poking around the other day and thought I saw some ads for Aug travel to Disney.

Part of the reason they're full is the free DDP (at least I assume it is). More people are staying on site because of that. I don't think it will be over crowded. But then again I could be wrong......

i'm hoping it's not too crowded as we're due to be there the week after you... historically it's been a low crowd time and the unofficial guide and other crowd calendars still show it to be on the low to medium range...

to the OP: my niece is a student at FAU and her sister will be joining her there as a freshman in a few weeks! :)

I mean except for a few weeks here and there when is it not crowded .

They are offering free dining or a Party or Festival year round now.

Don't get me wrong I think it's a good thing as maybe it will get the 5th park going or some more new attraction to the others

yea i think im just going to keep it....Im too excited to cancel and those dates are just too perfect for me and my girlfriend...so theres no looking back hopefully it wont be too crowded.

vin1215, just did a search for a room on Disney's site for Aug 19-23, came
up with 23 resort matches. They are rarely "completely booked".

AKL & WL were unavailable for dates selected but all others I looked at had rooms available; Poly, BC & YC, SS, FW Cabin, BWI, GF, CR, CBR, DL & PO...

I talked to a CM yesterday and she said they were also doing construction on the pool at All Star Sports. That could have something to do with it also. If you booked a package with the discount all the packages could be sold plus they are running a post card discount too.

thanks guys, so i am definetly keeping my dates... It was so weird last night i ran the same search and it only showed two available resorts, but today it is the total opposite....wow what a relief.

Where did you hear that they are completely booked? We booked a week ago for a short trip Aug 20 to 23, and had quite a number of options. Almost every resort we considered, from POR to WL bunk beds to BC, where we ended up booking, had availability using the current discount code. The only resort we checked that didn't was Coronado Springs.

I know that the temporary 'closure' of AKL and the demolition of the CR north wing have to have some effect on occupancy on the other resorts, but I don't think it is enough to have every room in the rest of the World filled.

If the weather won't bother you (which is why many people won't go in August) then I would stay put (and it sounds like you are). I might suggest subscribing to Tour Guide Mike, I used him during the Mother Load week of crowds, between Christmas and New Years. I never waited in lines and we had a great time. In some ways, it was our favorite trip. Crowds are getting harder to avoid and predict so now I just go when it works for our schedule and don't stress about crowds. TGM has a money back guarantee and even with 8 trips to WDW, I still always get it. I love his charts on least crowded parks per day. Given the overall amount of money you are spending what's another $20?

Another reason you might have some sold out or nearly full resorts could be conventions. I know last year in late August our resort, CSR was fully booked due to a convention and some enormous family reunion but the parks were very slow.

Good luck and have fun!

what kind of advice does tour guide mike give. Is it extremely hard to find secrets or basic stuff i can learn on DIS.

you hate lines..either go the last week of august leave BEFORE labor day or even better go like mid sept.

I had a lot of folks here tell me "crowds aren't bad" for late May trip..their version of "not bad" and mine were 2 different things

I like walking onto rides almost anytime of day, not just when the rooster is crowing in the am.If you only ride with the roosters then go when the rest of the world says "it wasn't bad" if you like to walk on rides almost anytime, go in sept
