Should I change 50's Prime Time?

Starting to second guess this ADR. I'm concerned about the 'interaction' I'm not sure its something my parents would enjoy, they are quite shy and I don't want them squirming in their seats, they are in their 60's.

If we I do change, what would you recommend?

My evening ADR is locked in - Hollywood Brown Derby, we really like this restaurant.

Thanks for any help :)

So this would be for lunch then? What about mamma melrose instead??

If you really wanna try 50's, you can always let the hostess know youre not interested in the antics. The servers are pretty good, theyre also pretty good at picking up on who is interested in playing along and who isnt.

Are you going with kids? I remember my Uncle just loving it when I went with him as a kid. He filled his time getting me in trouble with the staff and then moved on to my sister after he was done with me.

Oh ok - I just don't want my Dad getting sent to the corner or anything  :rotfl:

Maybe you'll get the server we had last year. She was there simply to do her job, serve the food, and that was it. No jokes, teasing, or interaction whatsoever.:(

I echo the sediments of the PPs, if you really want to eat there, then tell the host/hostess and server that you're not interested in that antics. Some might still creep in, but hopefully very little. Otherwise, I would try finding somewhere else to eat (Sci Fi is fun).

I'm an adult now, but when I went to 50PT as a young teen I still vividly remember the "teasing". It was awful (I already got enough table reminders from my real parents, I did not want/need them from the server) and it completely turned me off from that restaurant. It's been more than a decade now and I have absolutely no desire to go back.

I wonder this about my own daughter - she is 11yrs and definitely a good sport but I'm all about table-manners at home as it is (don't ever lick your knife in front of me!!! lol ) so she may roll her eyes and not enjoy.

We are trying it for lunch this year, the kids want to..we did sci-fi a couple years back and we had a great time and good food..I just hope this compares...

This is kinda my thing too. I loved PTC as I'm really into the 50's in general (love classic shows, the decor, etc.) and I thought it was awesome to see everything "in color" - for some reason the B&W shows never got me into the idea that in real life, things were super colorful during that era. Plus, I really liked the menu. The food turned out to be so-so and our servers were (thankfully!!) not too crazy. I'm shy and I wouldn't have wanted attention on me, and DH isn't really keen on social interaction either. He's rather gruff with strangers, etc. And the kids were pretty tired that day, so I'm glad they didn't get teased, especially DD. I don't know whether our server picked up on our mood or if we just got lucky that we didn't get bugged. I would go, but I too would let someone know that we weren't really there for the antics.

I think 50's prime time servers are really great at reading how much your party wants to interact. I went there with my mum and will they were funny did not push us into doing some of the antics they ate famous for. However the same server was much more over the top with a big family with children. I think you would have an enjoyable experience!

I would keep the reservation. I went with my mother-in-law, father-in-law and an aunt-in-law. The ladies did NOT want to be there and it showed. They just wanted to eat and get out to "doing things". We were pretty much left alone which disappointed me but the server could sense the mood. Worst meal of my entire Disney trips and it wasn't because of the restaurant, which was great because they didn't overstep. It was because of the company of the "ladies".

Keep the reservation, ask for someone low keyed and enjoy the other atmosphere.

we did this a couple years ago and all of us are shy even the 2 kids but the server was great, did'nt go OTT but made us laugh, i did'nt eat my green beans which she duely noted and brought back a free dish of ice cream with the beans in them and said maybe you will eat your beans now, i eat the ice cream of course but she laughed and did'nt make a fool of me or anything, food was good, enjoyed the experiance

When I went with mu husband, we enjoyed the experience and the decor. As others have said, I think the servers can read the table.... The played around with us a bit and made us laugh, but never did anything annoying or embarassing! I like it!

We don't like 50's at all. We had a rude staff member who seemed to take the antics a little too far. We also had a rude chef who came out to assist with an allergy. I couldn't find anything I wanted to eat that they could guarantee was safe, which I understood so I opted just grab a dessert snd eat a meal elsewhere. They seems to get really annoyed after that and it went downhill from there. It was the only time I have ever left uncomfortable in a Disney restaurant due to my allergies so we wouldn't return.

behavior is why we love prime Time. We love taking newbies there and deliberately getting them in trouble. We are always bummed when e get a waitress or waiter that doesn't engage....if you don't think they can handle it go to Sci Fi!

GovieMom, you must have had the same server we had...:rotfl2:
That being said, I think I'm in the minority here, but my hubby and I didn't like 50's Primetime. The food was just ehh... and we weren't really into the vibe.:confused3
I dunno...home cooking isn't something I usually want to eat when going out because I can have that kind of food anytime. I'd rather eat either more exotic foods, or more high end stuff I don't get a chance to have on a regular basis. But different strokes for different folks :p

The food is good, we sit in the lounge and order dinner so we don't have to be part of the show. We have eaten in the dining room a few times and each time they realize we are there for the food, not the "fun". But they still did things like on the way by our server told me to eat my veggies. I said it aint gonna happen and she left me alone but ..another time the server airplaned my DH last bite into his mouth and he ate it. Then told us it was grizzle, thats why he left it. The rest of had a great laugh at his expense and asked why he didn't just tell her. He said he was put on the spot and just ate it!! Another time I got a turkey sandwich, which is a huge sammie, and of course I couldn't finish and 'my sister' told me to clean my plate. I looked at her and said "who could eat all this" she laughed and let it go. But as you can see we tried several differant times because we really like the food and I do like seeing the old tv shows but they still try to include you in the 'fun' even when they know you are not into it. I would change my reservation if you have any doubts! Oh ya another time we were with an 18 yr old and she ordered a shake and the server told her no ice cream until after dinner and she didn't bring the shake until she brought the dinners although our sodas were brought before the meal. SORRY for the long post but I thought you should hear my opinion!:goodvibes
