DS and I planned on going to WDW for all the holiday magic (as we have done for the past 4 years) the Sunday after Thanksgiving for a week. Room booked at POP, flights booked, MVMVP tickets in hand, even got Candlelight Processional with dinner at Le Cellier. All good right???

Well DS just informed me that he is up for a new job that is not willing to give him the time off

I am sooo disappointed at this point but always knew that this could be a possibility when DS graduated from college this year.

So I just don't know what to do!!!:sad2: There is no one else that can get the time off at this point so do I cancel:sad: or should I go myself??

I have never travelled by myself anywhere so I do not know how I would do but I have been to WDW so many times (never been to POP; usually DVC) and love it .

What should I do??????

What's that sprouting out of your scapula? All feathery and stuff - wait, it's a...wing!

Welcome to the flip side of empty nesting. Freedom to do things you've never had the option for is suddenly on the menu. Can be scary, and you might not like it at all at first - but chances are you'll get in touch with parts of you that were exclusively devoted to brood care in the past. Learning to love your own company is a superpower that can keep you from making all kinds of bad decisions.

I imagine that there are a bunch of folks here who would gladly meet up to help with your flying lessons. Fortune favors the brave!

IOW's.....

Do a Solo! :cool1:

From the experiences of many here who have had the chance to go on a Solo trip, It seems you are never "Alone" while travelling solo at Disney. it's always easy to strike up a conversation with people while in lines. You can take in the world at your own pace without having to worry about what other people want or don't want to do, and maybe even go check out some of those "hidden gems" that may not have the draw that other people would want to take the time to see.

As for rides, several rides have single rider lines, allowing you to skip the regular que... and even those that don't, will often look for small groups or solo's to fill out a row or vehicle. (think Space mountain where you might have a group of 3 and the 4person vehicle).

from a financial standpoint, odds are your airline tickets aren't refundable, so since you've already paid for them, you might as well use them. Your DS' park tickets you can either keep and just save them for another trip when he can go (or for yourself if you find you loved Solo'ing so much you want to go back), or you can adjust your package to remove them. While the park ticket won't expire if you don't use them, you would lose any dining plan credits on the ticket.

So in closing.... Go for it! You might find you'd enjoy it.

there is also a good chance you might be able to run into some other DISers around that time frame for a DISMeet, so even if you are nervous about going solo, you might be able to find other DIS members down there you can tag along with.

well you have a few days before your 45 day mark... see how you feel about it... its not really bad... at times it is even better than having someone to discuss what ride to do where to eat etc. Mayb do a day trip in your area and see how you feel... good luck...

really going Solo to WDW does not even feel like solo.. you just dont have anybody to share the bathroom the sink etc.. but as soon as you get out of that door... Possibilities!!!!!!!:woohoo:

Almost the exact same thing happened to me a couple of years ago. Christmas trip to the World (well, 1st week of Dec) with my DS. About 45 days before the trip, he tells me he's very sorry but due to college tests he can't go.
I thought about canceling but decided, since I already had the time off from work, to go anyway.
I"ll confess that the first night I was there walking around DTD, I did have a pang of loneliness. However, I told myself that if I'm spending all that money I better get my money's worth.
It was great. I had park hoppers so when I got tired of one park, I just headed over to a different one. Arrived and left whenever I felt like it.
I even spent another evening in DTD and did some Christmas shopping. (Drove down from MI so I didn't have the hassle of shipping anything home.)
As many, many other 'solos' had said, there is a lot of freedom in going solo.

Do the trip. Most of my trips have been solo the past four years since my last child was married. It is wonderful to be able to do whatever you want. If I miss any of the kids, I call them and have a conversation while I am sitting in one of the parks, enjoying the scenery! What could be better!!

I would cancel your DS portion of the trip, see how much you save with that, and then possibly upgrade to a moderate or a deluxe and go solo! Splurge a little on yourself, have fun!

Pop is fine, though would not be my first choice for a solo Christmas trip, but hey if it meant I still got to go, I would be all over it. There are many of us dissers who love to meet up with folks when they are in town for a ride or a meal. I am a local and its just little ole me. Love hanging out with new people and finding new friends. I say go for it. You will love it.

If you feel comfortable going solo, by all means do it. I have done some solo and some with family. I love my solo trips. I have stayed at Pop, no frills, but who cares. Since you already have tickets to the special events you won't feel alone. There are so many folks mulling around you will feel very comfortable I am sure. If you would feel better, when you check in ask for a room near the entrance. The side walks are very well lighted and people coming and going all the time.

The bus stop is right out front and does not stop anywhere else but your destination.

I wish you luck in makeing your decision.

I must admit that the first time I went solo I was a "little" on edge but after I got to the resort, checked in and headed off I had a blast! I've been doing at least 1 solo trip a year and the rest have been with family. You really don't feel alone anywhere and that includes dining, in fact, I feel like I recevied more attention that I'm alone.

I say, DO IT! When are your dates? I'm at POP from 12/2 to 12/13 and would share a meal at one of the parks with you.:santa:

Here is the best news ever........

DS called me today and informed me that the new job gave him the time off!!:cheer2:

But just to let you all know my decision would have been to go solo because I know at some point that will happen since DH and DD are not the Disney fanatics in the family. I cannot get either one of them to go to disney more than once a year and I need so much more than that!!!
