I have always bought the UG. This may however, be the last year.
I found the Jim Hill rumor comments last year to be a bit of a bother. This year they were flat out OBNIXIOUS! Until they go back to publishing FACTS I am off the wagon!
I buy that and the official one each time we plan a trip. SO much changes at WDW from trip to trip for us (3 o so eayrs in between each trip) that I feel the need to get up to speed as much as I can. I enjoy reading them for one, and two, I'm not here on the DIS boards much while we aren't planning a trip becuase it's just FAR too depressing for me. SO I miss a LOT on these boards in bewteen trips. PLUS, I personally find it fun to read their text in the unoffical. They throw some thing in just to see if you are reading. Last year's had something in it about Pal Mickey saying something like "I could really get baked on a good joint right now." I 'bout died! Not exactly PC or even appropriate by a long shot but I laughed anyway. I'm sure someone was canned for that one! It's not in this edition. But they threw in some good stuff to laugh at anyway.
WE TOTALLY AGREE, we purchased this once, and never again, it is too negative about our favorite place. We purchase Birmbaums every year, and enjoy planning our trips from those.
If you don't want to buy the book...you can go to the website....
***************** you can subscribe to the site for a year and it's constantly updated. It's has many other touring plans in addition to the standard ones in the book! It also has great things like the magic your way calculator to help you figure out which passes are best for you! I love the site... I have to admit...I'm hooked!!!! Last year...I didn't really need the book so I'd take my son to Barnes and Noble and while he played with the Thomas trains, I'd read the unofficial guide! I love it!
I wind up buying one about every year because I pass mine along to friends and colleagues who are talking about going to WDW. The first piece of advice I give to people is 1) read the UOG and 2) investigate disboards.com
If you want to use the touring plans, I'd either buy the 2007 edition or subscribe to their site (touring plans dot com) so you get the plans with all the latest attractions worked in.
If you like the printed word and have the money, I'd also pick up the WDW Passporter and the EZ Fun Guide. The three seem to work well together as a set.
