Should I bring toys?!

Traveling to WDW in a few weeks with our 13-month-old twins. Do I need to bring toys to keep in the room? The thought of packing bulky things seems crazy but I don't want them to be bored while at the resort (staying at Old Key West). Anyone have experience with this?

We always traveled with toys when each of our boys were little, and still try to have a few things there for down time with our 7 year though mostly his DS and maybe one other thing is all we need now. Think about times you are in the room; taking showers getting ready, winding down for bed, what will they do? TV is not a great choice for toddlers. I would pack a few things that they will enjoy playing with together and in more than one way. I took duplo legos when mine were little. Put them in a zip lock bag, and we did not take a huge amount. A few stack toys, and the people and animals from a fisher price play set are great too. I also took a few bath toys, bubble bath or bath soap crayons. This made for a longer bath and allowed me to do a few things in the bathroom, of course with kid in sight at that age. Once we had no bath toys and we use the beverage tray and ice bucket for an island and ship and added the one power ranger we had along and he played for an hour of down time. With such little ones, also remember stuff to child proof the room, and we always take books for bedtime stories.

I brought small toys for DD to play with. We went when she was 22 months, 2 years 9 months, and 4.5 years. You don't need to bring big toys but just a few to keep them entertained.

I also always have a way of entertaining DD while eating. Sometimes she is done before us and needs something to do. She has always been a grazer rather than an eater so never eats very much at one time.

At that age I often brought a small piece from a set like I would bring one Little People person and their car. A small board book is good too, or a little truck, or any sort of small stuffed animal (you can make it 'talk' to your kid, ask them questions, play peek-a-boo, etc).

For our first two trips with my son (13 months, 2 yrs) we rented a stroller and a tub of toys from travelbabees.com. I must note I had a less than stellar experience the second time, but they made it right and with in 24 hours I had a huge tub of toys in the room.

That way I just brought some toys for the play ride (small trinkets from the dollar store that I picked up to serve as constant and new distractions).

I always bring a few little toys. Something for them to play with on the plane and in the hotel room. The last 2 times I have brought a Mr.Potato head and then we got to the toy shop at DTD and let the girls fill a box with pieces, it is a great souvenir and gives them something to do in the room (not that we are ever in it).

GREAT reminder and we did just that one year. We got the potato head that first night and he played with it almost exclusively the whole trip. Did something similar with the fill your own lego container. We have often bought a new toy or two to play with on the trip. Toddler toys might be a bit more difficult to find. We have bought quite a few of the hot wheel type cars over the years and that can keep little boys happy a long time.

We always bring a few for the plane ride and in the hotel room for when we are showering getting things ready for the day. We usually bring a few books, a coloring book and crayons, and a doll.

All we typically brought at that age were a handful of hot wheels and whatever I was using on the plane to distract them. Nothing more than what would fit in a gallon size ziplock...

At that age, we packed DD's backpack with small toys, books, and surprises to occupy her while traveling, in the hotel room or at meals. Come to think of it, we still do, but now she has more say in the packing.

Get a gallon size ziplock bag and pack some things. One for each.

They probably will get some toys at the parks to add to the collection

You can also pick up a few new toys as surprises for the trip down.

Think for the bag: duplo(lego for toddlers), color wonder, cars, blocks, people

Bring a stuffed animal/blanket. Handy for pillows.

Nothing with wires. My Sister took her DD on a flight with a toy that had batteries and wires, when it went thru security it was an issue Thankfully, Sis saw the humor in it and TSA saw what it was before it went thru the xray.

Edit: I forgot. We still use the ziplock bags. Great for visual for limiting DS when it is time for him to pack it. He just gets to pack more into it with the legos

I also use a gallon sized ziploc and pack some cars, figures, etc in there. We use it on the plane, in the room, at meals, waiting for shows, etc. I would recommend taking a picture of all the contents or keeping a list so you can do a quick check to make sure you have everything before you leave. Especially in the room, things can get lost under furniture, etc. I try to stick to a nice easy number like 5 cars, 5 figures, etc so its easy to know if you are missing one.
