Should I bring stroller for 6yr old?????

I will rent a double jogger for my two, 6 DS and 3DD, as my son gets sick with the heat. He NEVER uses one at home, but last summer he started having problems. We took breaks, swam, kept him in AC, gave him plenty of water, but he kept having the runs at night. ( This happened at home under the same circumstances - it is def. the heat). The days we let him use a stroller, were better. I know he may be slightly embarrased, but I think saving himself the stomach stress will be worth it to him. That said, I need to have one for my 3yo anyway, so it is not as big a decision. My point is as others have stated, do what you need to do for your family. My son is incredibly active and COULD hack the walking, but, NOT obvious to everyone else, his system cannot. Enjoy your trip!

Check out Orlando Strollers.:thumbsup2 We just returned from our trip to WDW with a 6 and 3 year old and we rented a double stroller from them. It was so much better and cheaper than the Disney strollers. It worked great for even the 6 year old. We could not have done it without the stroller. Super easy to collapse for the buses too. I can't tell you how many people made comments about how easy it was

candace2--was your 6 year old comfortable. My 6 year old is slightly shoter than the average 6 yo. I'm trying to determine if he will be comfortable in the rental.

Also, was it difficult to maneuver the stroller on/off the buses?

Do you think your 6YO would have been comfortable in the Disney single rental stroller?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Hi. My DH thinks I'm out of my mind...but I DO want to take the stroller for our 6yr old son!! No, he normally does NOT use it, not since our last trip to WDW, but he is not used to walking MILES AND MILES every day like we do at WDW.

Last year, he fell asleep in it a few times, and used it to sit in to watch parades and get through the parking lot quickly. Anyone else use one with bigger kids like him?

When my DD was seven, I rented a stroller for her! Even though she's very active, I knew that miles and miles of walking in the heat would have been too much for her. She didn't use it all the time, but I'm glad I had it available for her when she needed a break. When DD wasn't in the stroller, it was being used to transport the backpack etc. That was 4 years ago - I think I rented a double to give her a bit more room.

Heck, I was prepared to rent one last year just for the backpacks!

I'd say take a stroller - if you don't want to travel with one, buy an inexpensive one from WalMart and "donate" it to another family at the end of your trip. Even if you bought an inexpernsive stroller, it'd still cost you less than the rental. Better to buy a stroller, than to "waste" park admission if your son becomes too tired and cranky (making you and DH just as tired and cranky) to enjoy the park.

Have fun and do what works for you and your family!

We are bringing one (a Maclaren Volo) for our 6 year-old DD, even though my DS 16 and I can take turns giving her shoulder rides.

There's going to be times when it just makes sense to let her cruise in a stroller while eating, drinking and (hopefully) napping.

My almost 6 yr old will be in one in July. She's about 43" and 41lbs.

I have a Maclaren that holds up to 65lbs. I bought when she was 3 going on 4. It's only ever been used for WDW trips, which was why I bought it. I've more than made up for the price of it in what I've saved on rentals for the past 3 trips. (We've taken 3 7-day trips since June 2007. We're taking an 8-day trip this July)

She will nap in it if she's tired. She likes to have her own space. She's never been one for being in crowds and having people bump or touch her. It's hot in July (2 trips June/July, 1 April, 1 October). She walks fine at home, but not for 5 - 10 miles a day.

My last comment would be that I actually could have paid for this stroller twice in what I would have paid in rental fees LOL.

My 6 year old got the stomach virus the day before we left for WDW and was even throwing up on the way to the airport. She was so weak we bought the one they sale all the giftshops and used it everyday there.

So sorry that your daughter was sick. How did you like that stroller? If you don't mind, could you post a picture?

Your 4 year old is up from 7am to 1am daily?

I'm impressed.

My 6 year old rarely makes it past 9-10 if he was up early.

We go to WDW in October usually. The alarm goes off at 6am every morning the week we are there. DH tells everybody he gets up earlier at WDW then he does for work. We leave by 7am and are gone until the parks close whatever time that may be. If EMH is going on morning or evening sometimes we will stay for that also.

We take one day off for swimming the week we are there and may leave a park early usually AK to swim that afternoon also.

And when we leave the parks 4-5 nights while we are there we head over to the BW to rent surry bikes or watch the magicians and jugglers.

Strollers aren't my kids things, never have been. They barely used one at home ever, even as young toddlers, so when they gave them up at a young age at WDW it didn't surprise me.

Now that my kids are 10 and 5, they are a distant memory, thank goodness!

I am one that has to bring a stroller. And I am the one in the bus lines with the gigantic double stroller getting on the bus. But I have my two kids, DS2 and DD 6. My DD does walk a whole lot but it is so nice to have the stroller there when she does start the whole "why does bubby get to ride and I dont". AND with the double stroller we have.....If she dont ride, we have her side of the seat to store our stuff on....then she sits on it....so it helps us out a whole lot..

I think it just depends on your family situation. If you think you need it, take it.

The stroller on the left is from Disney, I already had the one on the right. The blue one did seem stronger and more sturdy to me. She weighed about 60 pounds at the time.

Thanks so much for posting that picture. My son and your daughter are about the same size--if all else fails, I'll buy this stroller for $40.

Wow--I thought that was your husband--he looks so young. Of course, I'm getting ready for my 40th birthday, so lots and lots of people are starting to look "young" --plus, I'm refusing to look "old".

You wouldn't believe how much I hear that. He loves that he looks so young. He's 49, he has just aged well. I can only hope I inherited some of those genes. And you wouldn't believe how many people tell him he looks like Bill Clinton, I just don't see that one though/

OP--I've been commenting on your thread w/o replying directly.

There is no way that I would go to Disney World w/o some option regarding strollers for my 6 YO son. He plays soccer, basketball, and baseball, but he is not up to walking all over Disney--he loves to sit in the stroller and look at everything--he's happy, not tired. Makes for a great vacation for my family. In fact, I'm trying to get into a swap on the budget board --if that doesn't work, we will probably get that nice Disney umbrella stroller shown in the above post.

You're funny!!!lol:rotfl2: After reading all these posts, I am bringing ours. We still have it, he still fits in it and hey, to be honest, at the end of the night, I remember wishing I had a stroller to ride in!

we bought the disney stroller last year. I have a DD7 now. It was good for most days but we really planned rests throughout the day with my ADRs. I could have gone with out it. The only day that it caused trouble was when she was over tired and didn't want to be up. We had a full on floppy croppy melt down in Epcot. (think arms and legs everywhere and a voice that could peal paint from the walls) She wouldn't ride in it, wouldn't walk just wouldn't do anything. I think she was wayyyyy over tired. Then we had lunch and it took almost 1.5 hrs and she was a different child. after that the stroller stayed in the room.

I never considered a stroller until now. My DD(6) is very active, she plays soccer and loves to be outside running around. We are going the end of May and I never considered a stroller for her. However now I am wondering if iot wouldn't be a bad thing to have one. She hasn't used a stroller since our last trip to WDW in Oct 2005. I did notice at her last soccer practice (after about 15-20 minutes) that her face was VERY red and her nose was white, had me very concerned (it was about 85 degrees). Taking that into consideration I will need to think long and hard about a stroller. At least I know now I can buy the one in Disney for approx. $40, and I would definetly donate it to a family as suggested in a pp.

Thanks for asking this question!!!
