should I bring my baby bjorn

My son will be 7 months and 21-22 pounds on our trip in a little over a month. Will he still be comfortable in a baby bjorn, or more importantly, will I still be comfortable putting him in it?

He is awfully heavy to carry and very wiggly! So I thought the baby bjorn would be helpful instead of getting him in and out of the stroller? Tips would be great.

As a disclaimer, I am not in the market to buy any other carrier.

Also, we will have dd 2.5 with us too. Could we get away with a single stroller in combo with her walking and him in the baby bjorn or should we bring our HUGE double stroller with us??

From my experience, once the baby was over 15lbs, I felt that the baby was too heavy for long periods of walking.
You will be standing a lot at WDW and walking more than you think. The extra weight will be hard on your back, your legs and your feet. So I recommend a stroller.

thanks! What about when doing toontown, fantasyland, etc..could we put him in the baby bjorn then so we can walk around and do the rides without putting him in and getting him out of the stroller constantly??

I have always used a carrier for my kids before they could stand in line without haivng to be picked up for the duration. It also worked well for on and off rides so my hands were free to help my toddler in and out of boats or hold the baby bag while DH did, or ran to grab the stroller. You'll still want a double stroller tho.

We still do and ours are nearly 4 years and 16 months on our next trip. There's just ALOT of walking.

I know you said you didn't want ot get a new carrier but I found that when my first got bigger the front carrier didn't work so hot for my back I got him a Combi Urban Hip Carrier (they run abut $40) it even has zippered pockets for holding items, which I loved. I ended up getting my 2nd son a Lascal front carrier (the Baby Bjorn didn't work well for us) and at 27lbs he's still comfortable in it so I haven't moved him into the hip carrier yet, it's significantly more $$ tho.

One thing about the front carrier is that I wear it on the plane with the baby facing out he's much more chill since it feels more like a car seat restraint so he doesn't try to crawl all over and he tends to zonk out pretty quickly after take off.

We were in Disney with my 11.5 month old and I was so mad I had forgotten my bjorn!! She is 20 lbs and had just learned to walk - but it would have been nice to have some times.

They are not big to pack -so bring it - If you only use it once it's not a waste. But if you wish you brought it and it's sitting on your bed a home you'll be mad.

Also one thing to think of, is that it is over 80 degrees here today...In a month we might be having 80 degree days every day and that little one, might get hot. For toon town it would be great, it's very easy to leave your stroller and cover the whole area, same for fantasy land. You can leave it, and easily do about 5 rides and then go back for it. Have fun on your vacation!

loved our BB when kids were little but at that weight and the heat not sure I am positive that you should bring the huge double stroller. Way to much walking for your 2.5 year old.... way eoleril

Too bad you're not in the market, b/c I would have suggested an Ergo. Much better for your spine and baby's pelvis.

I'm not sure if bringing it and struggling with it is better or worse than not bringing it...never used a bjorn (retired chiropractor, couldn't use anything that unergonomically sound) so I don't know.

But if you stumble across an Ergo on the ground, don't throw it away, check it out. :)

I'd take it. Well, actually I'd buy something new and take it.:goodvibes

The BB is not all the comfy esp as babies get bigger. A soft structured carrier like the Ergo, Beco, Patapum are so amazing and comfy, even with really big kids. Another option is a mei tai.

Just some ideas. I couldn't have done Disney without ours. We would park the stroller and I'd carry him in the beco.

I brought the Baby Bjorn when DS was 5 mos and used it a few times (mostly in restaurants since he couldn't use the high chair - he wasn't sitting up yet). I brought it again when he was 17 mos and I don't recall if I used it at all. I don't think I did. I imagine it wouldn't have been very comfortable for either of us at that time.

If you don't want to lug your big double stroller to WDW, could you use two umbrella-type strollers instead?

I posted here a few days ago about bringing a carrier for my 11 month old and everyone voted yes. I have a bjorn, but find it too uncomfortable at this point. Instead, I'm borrowing an Ergo from a friend. Do you have a friend that maybe you could borrow a more structured carrier from? We plan on using the Ergo as a backpack. And as a bonus, DH is psyched to use it!

I say both, bring the double comfortable stroller and some type of carrier for lines and places where strollers are not allowed.

I used a sling and wore my dd at 8 and 15mos in lines and even on rides and attractions. IMHO it was a lifesaver as you can't take the stroller into the lines at all and some of the pavilions esp in Epcot don't allow strollers.

I'd definitely bring a carrier of some sort. We took DD to Disneyland at 14 months and while she was walking then, she definitely wouldn't have made it long. Anyway, we had a stroller which was a wonderful solution, but we also had our Ergo with us (which I did buy for the trip and other uses, and has turned out TOTALLY worth it). The best was when we'd get to the park at the beginning and just go from ride to ride to ride, we could leave the stroller somewhere and just hop on and off rides with DD in the Ergo and not have to take her out - SO SO much easier than in and out of the stroller! I'm not sure how comfortable the Bjorn would be at that weight, but if you don't have anyone to borrow something else from or can't find a cheap one to buy used, I think it would still be useful to have the Bjorn for certain times. I hope you have a great trip!

I use a Heart2Heart baby sling and would have been totally screwed without it! DD was 9 months old and I didn't know there were so many place where strollers were not allowed (ie. MOST of Epcot!). She was in the stroller a lot, but whenever I had to have her in my arms the carrier saved my arms from a wiggly baby. She rode plenty of rides with me in the sling, saw shows etc. I can't imagine that I would have been able to carry her! I know you don't want to buy anything new, but with my sling I can even lay her down inside for a nap...happened many times while there. Going back in 18 days with my now 15month old and it will be the first item I pack!

there's now WAY I'd carry a 20 lber in a Bjorn - bad for your back and bad for the baby's.

I'd pack the double stroller, my 3 year still needed to ride last time we went - heck, *I* would have like to ride :rotfl:

If you feel like you need a carrier (which, I personally LOVE and couldn't live without) I'd check around and see if you can borrow one or find one used. Ergo, Beco, even a Mei Tai would work better than the Bjorn.

my back hurts just thinking of carrying a 20 pound baby in a bjorn. short periods of time seem ok, but all day would be killer.

I haven't read all the replies, but do you have a friend you could borrow a sling from? At that age the sling was so much better for me than the Bjorn.

Thanks for all the tips! I will keep my eye out for an Ergo and will def bring the double stroller. I just thought that maybe if I carried the baby, they could swap out, but I will just bring it. None of my friends do the baby carrying or their kids are older. I will check craigslist or ebay. Thanks!

I would want something that is front facing, which one of these would be front facing? I also only plan on using it for short periods of time. Is there a weight limit for the bjorn? I also have a hip hammock, would that work?

I think the weight limits vary on the Bjorns. Mine was 22 or 23 lbs, I think, but it was an older model.
