Nana Annie said:As for the cleaning part, this is also a pet peeve of mine. So, as a parent, I try to be proactive about it. Young kids need encouragement and guidance on proper social skills. They can get so caught up with the fun of visiting, sometimes they forget all their manners :) Anyway, this works for us, maybe it can work for you, since your 9 year old realized he should have cleaned, but didn't do it.
I have to say many parents (not just kids) are guilty of this..........getting caught up in the fun and forgetting manners. They know their children should clean up after themselves, but forget to remind the children to do so and often, they remind the children, but rather than check behind them, they just assume the child helped clean. (I've seen this scenario too).
I hope it all works out.
