Should have kept it simple at the Sci-Fi!!!!

I read all your posts and should listened to your advice to "keep it simple" at the Sci-FI Cafe at MGM. Went last week with two of my children and it was simply awful. They had kids meals which were fine but I ordered the roast chicken. It arrived cold and undercooked, was sent back and when it was returned to me it was luke warm and tough as leather. It was served with a mashed potato/squash combination which was okay but cold. This one was really awful. Wish I could say something better but it was horrible. The couple in the "back seat" of our car ordered the salmon and left it uneaten. They did not speak English so I think that prevented them from complaining but it was obvious they were not enjoying it. The waitress never asked me or them if there was a problem.

I should have just ordered a simple sandwich or hamburger because the atmosphere is really cute!

Like I said to the post above, I've read so many awful reviews of the Sci Fi food over the past 2 years, that we only get milkshakes there and enjoy the atmosphere. Thanks for your post; you may have saved someone else's dinner out there!

Thanks for the post. With all of the bad reviews of late I'm glad I talked our niece into going to 50's Prime Time. We've eaten at Sci-Fi a couple of times but only had sandwiches. They were OK, nothing to write home about. Sorry you had a bad time. Live and learn. Again thanks for the info.

I've not heard many positive reviews of the food at Sci-Fi, actually since it opened. Back before they offered entrees, the feedback was typically that the food was too expensive for what was given (though perhaps that was because there was some sort of entertainment charge built in to the menu prices). Now, with the more expensive entrees making the space potentially more profitable, the food quality itself is typically called into question.

My standing recommendation to friends has been to only go in there for snacks and dessert.

Stick with the Cheeseburgers and you won't have a problem. I didn't have a problem during my two previous visits with this advice, actually I enjoy the Cheeseburgers there and would not hesitate to go back.

I will consider going back too because the atmosphere is so much fun for kids but I if I did I would definately ONLY order hamburgers, etc. Never a full dinner.

This is a spot I've always wanted to try but have chosen other spots due to all of the negative reviews on the boards. Maybe next time we'll try it but keep it simple as you suggest!

I always enjoy the cheeseburgers and onion rings. I haven't tried the shakes, but I hear good things about them.

The last time I ate at Sci-Fi, I think last December, I got the cheeseburger. It wasn't too bad but the fries were awful. They tasted like the kind you buy in a bag from the freezer at the grocery store and heat up in the oven.

we had a bad meal there in June, we had the pasta with capers shrimp and it had so much garlic, or something was off, but all 3 that had it were sick that night.

Hate to rub it in...but that's always my advice...stick with the greasy and unhealthy (but delicious!!!) cheeseburger, fries and chocolate shake...and enjoy your surroundings!

DH and I also must be one of the few that enjoyed the Sci-Fi. We did order burgers and fries and shakes, and really, I didn't find the food bad at all. My brother ordered the sirloin and enjoyed it. I think everyone just has different tastes, and also, many expect regular restaurant style food, and you won't get it.

I try to remember that I am at Disney World, not an all inclusive island resort with exotic food, so I don't rely too much on the food.

I have to agree. I ordered the catfish at the Sci fi and it was burnt pretty badly on the edges, as were the hush puppies they came with. But the atmosphere is really cool.

On our last trip we stuck to burgers, onion rings and milk shakes here and still weren't real impressed. I'm thinking the best bet is to give this one a skip for a few years.

We went here in July 2001 and we all LOVED it! But we all stuck with the burgers and shakes. We'll be going again this summer and will definitely stick with the burgers!

We went in Sept and I had a burger. I didnt like it at all, it was just not good, my fries were good.
On the other hand I read a lot of bad reviews on Tony's Twon Square (they had Pooh charachter meals there while CP was closed). We really liked the food, it was not a large selection though. They had like 4 items on adult menu to choose from. But it was still good and you got as much food as you could eat. The cheesecake there was great.
We prob wont go back to Sci-Fi but even with some bad reviews of restaurants I still like to try them out atleast once myself.

we ate here in november & didn't even KNOW they had burgers...they were not listed on the menu we got....i was offered a boca burger when i asked about a veggie alternative...it was $11 (i could have bought a whole box at sam's for less!). atmosphere was great, but we won't eat there again....shakes weren't even offered & it was obvious our waitress was really to go home!

While I try to avoid being overly negative in these forums, count me in as one who had a bad experience at Sci-Fi Dinein and hasn't been back since. In '97, I went on a trip with my husband, parents, grandparents, and sister. Since we were a large group, we were seated in two different "cars" with different servers. In our car, we had ordered a toasted ravioli appetizer, which grossed out my picky eater husband because it had corn in it, not something one would usually expect. My entree was a burger that was way too soaked in BBQ sauce. Our server was also slow in getting to us, so that my parents and grandparents had already had dessert, but we didn't have any. (We began to feel rushed because park security had done a sweep through the restaurant to see what resort guests were still left and would require transportation back.) I just felt that they tried to be too exotic with the food, especially when the environment lends itself so easily to standard American fare.
