Should flight attendants opt-out of full body scanning?

The Association of Flight Attendants Local 66 has advised its members, if they choose to opt-out of the full-body scan, that they should request the resulting pat-down in a private room with a witness present just in order to make sure nothing too fancy goes on.

Local 55 with 2,000 members is upset over what it calls "invasive pat-downs" recently implemented by the TSA. "We're getting calls daily about peoples' experiences, our members are concerned," said Deborah Volpe, Vice President of the Association of Flight Attendants Local 66. Volpe confirmed that the union is offering advice to its flight attendants, who mostly work for Tempe-based USAirways, involving the security moves.

"We don't want them in uniform going through this enhanced screening where their private areas are being touched in public," said Volpe. "They actually make contact with the genital area."

Volpe said she has been a flight attendant for nearly 25 years and she and other union leaders are pushing for a "crew pass" system that would allow flight attendants and pilots to essentially by-pass security.

What do you think?

Are the pilots and flight attendants subject to increased radiation?

If TSA employees get a pass on screening everytime they enter into the sterile area, why shouldn't flight crews?

Perhaps because they don't actually fly on the planes?

No but they are allowed ON to the plane to do security sweeps, so if they wanted to they could get something past the secure point and then "plant" it on the plane.

My opinion is if you are be in the secure area, you should have to be subjected to screening - BOTTOM LINE!

Wow . . . TSAers have carried weapons into the secure area. How hard would it be for one to transfer a weapon to a flyer. By the way, a crazed flight crew member does not need a weapon to commit mass destruction.
