True story...
I was so proud of myself for having dinner all ready and waiting while I ran the kids back and forth for their afternoon activities. There were stuffed peppers in the crockpot and a loaf of homemade oatmeal bread cooling on the counter.
When we arrived home, the children went upstairs to change their clothes while I went to get dinner on the table. I went to slice the bread and it wasn't there! I was ready to accuse my DS of snagging the loaf and taking it to his room (the kid loves homemade bread), when I noticed the tell-tale crumbs on the floor! My English Springer Spaniel had eaten a 1½ pound lof of bread! He sat there with a guilty look on his face and *burped*.
We didn't have bread with the stuffed peppers and the dog got no food for the night (not that he wanted any). Boy was he thirsty but he never got sick. He has since snagged many rolls, sandwiches and once ate a whole basket of croissants. Why the dog is so crazy about bread is beyond me! The vet said that ESS are known to be "counter-surfers" and with their ability to leap, I'd need to find high places to keep the bread. It now sits on top of the refrigerator.
