My puppy loves bread, but I worry that it might not be good for him (but I don't know if I'd put my hand between him and that bread, he turns into Cujo when he's eating something he loves:p ).

maybe even put a little meat on the bread

LOL! I remember the vet telling me that Max might like a stale bagel. Keeps him busy chewing for a while.

True story...

I was so proud of myself for having dinner all ready and waiting while I ran the kids back and forth for their afternoon activities. There were stuffed peppers in the crockpot and a loaf of homemade oatmeal bread cooling on the counter.

When we arrived home, the children went upstairs to change their clothes while I went to get dinner on the table. I went to slice the bread and it wasn't there! I was ready to accuse my DS of snagging the loaf and taking it to his room (the kid loves homemade bread), when I noticed the tell-tale crumbs on the floor! My English Springer Spaniel had eaten a 1½ pound lof of bread! He sat there with a guilty look on his face and *burped*.

We didn't have bread with the stuffed peppers and the dog got no food for the night (not that he wanted any). Boy was he thirsty but he never got sick. He has since snagged many rolls, sandwiches and once ate a whole basket of croissants. Why the dog is so crazy about bread is beyond me! The vet said that ESS are known to be "counter-surfers" and with their ability to leap, I'd need to find high places to keep the bread. It now sits on top of the refrigerator.

Mad4themouse,

My Golden used to do the same thing. If I ever left a loaf of bread out I would come home to plastic on the floor and no bread.
He once ate a whole pie, and entire fruit cake, and a huge box of muffins from Sams. In the 12 year he lived he surfed the counters whenever we were stupid enough to leave something on them. We learned quickly.

When ever he had too much bread he got diarrhea. At 90lb
too much was when he ate the whole loaf. I can't image a little harming a dog.

I will tell you from experience keep them away from fruitcake.

Nice pic, Marcie.:) LOL! I can imagine the consequences of a dog and fruitcake.

Nice stories.:teeth:

Your homemade bread must be better than mine, Mad4themouse.

Sandy, I never thought about give Boo a stale bagel. I bet he'd love that. How's the puppy doing?:)

My puppy is like his mommy, he loves starches.:teeth: I'm not much of a bread eater but if he sees me with bread, he starts licking his lips and giving me that puppy dog look.;)

Jason, Boo would rather eat the bread than the meat most of the time (unless the meat is KFC, then he'll try to eat my hand to get to the chicken:eek::p, but he loves their biscuits too).

this is a trre story
floppy my dog was home alone with a box of dunkin donuts she ate allof them.

also jessie the basset beagle hound. we where at busch gardens willams burg she ate the entre loaf of bread. the bag was ripped up i think she stood on on a step stool another one a loaf of ffrench bread

Bread is not bad for a dog. Our dogs get some bread from time to time. Beardies are great counter surfers and will liberate a loaf of bread from time to time if left alone.

Fklhou - is that your dog in the picture? What kind of dog is that?? Very cute.
Now just an old wives tale about dogs eating bread - now I don't believe it - just thought I'd throw it in - my grandma always said if you feed a dog bread they will foam at the mouth!!!! So for years I would not give a dog bread.

My 13 year old maltese loves potato chips. She would eat them all day if I let her.

The only thing I've heard is don't feed dogs chocolate.

Now talk about a counter surfer you all should see my cat DOOTSIE! OMG! She will look for anything, the little pig.

I don't think it hurts them, unless they have a wheat allergy like my dog, in which case they will break out in an oozy rash!!!!!!

Your Springer Spaniel story made me laugh, because we have an ESS and after Easter, my DH was picking the ham off the bone to make pea soup and he left a pile of about 2 lbs of ham on the counter, went outside to talk to a workman who was doing soem work on the hosue, and when he came back in, the ham was gone!!!!!:earseek: :earseek: Ted also did the telltale "burp"!!!!

I'm sure he'd like the stale bagel. Skippy is doing great! Except for being a little bully sometimes. He just wants to take over everything. We keep putting him in his place...the bottom rung. Max is sooooooooooooooo good putting up with him. They're just too cute together! Thanks for asking. How's your little one? And how about an adorable pic of him! ;)

Every now and then I throw "old" bread out in our thicket for the birds and little critters to enjoy and every single time over comes my Mom's dog, into the thicket to retrieve every slice!!!:p

Our baby eats bread too Shannon, but mainly crusts..........we keep the good stuff for oursleves, even tho he pleads for more;) ::yes::
