Should Disney add calorie counts?

Last week at WDW, two items I ordered left me wondering "WOW how many calories are in this, must be LOTS?"
- Muffaletta Sandwich at POFQ Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory
- Banana-stuffed French Toast at POR Boatwright's (guess this one's a goner now that they're not serving breakfast)

In New York City (and other cities too), many restaurants are required to post calorie information on their menus, and California passed state legislation requiring the same. Today's cover of USAToday has poll results saying 82% of New Yorkers feel this posted calorie information has impacted what food they order.

I've always thought of Disney as being pretty nutritionally responsible - I feel this way because the WDW kid's menus serve up far more fruits/veggies and non-fried options then most restaurants I visit.

So I'm curious...
Do you think Disney should post calorie information on their menus?
If they did, do you think it would guide your choices while eating in the world?
Would this information be a positive, or would it interfere with your fun of indulging on vacation?

I think it would be a great idea, as someone with digestive problems due to a gallbladder removal and pancreas issues, I have to be very careful with how many fat grams I eat. I am always left guessing at a counter service locations, as the TS locations are always very helpful in guiding me with good choices.

I would be unhappy about that. I like the idea of calories on the menu for my daily life but on vacation I don't want to count calories or feel guilty for enjoying foods that I would otherwise not eat. Maybe a happy medium would be to have them in a brochure, that way those that want to know can ask for it. The rest of us can be blissfully ignorant!

I agree with spotty. I'm on vacation save that stuff for when I'm home.

I have to agree with others. I don't want to know. I'm glad to know in my day-to-day life, but I'd rather enjoy my food and get whatever I want on vacation, despite high calories, than know and feel guilty. Besides, I'm never at Disney for more than a week. There's no way it can impact my health so much as to be alarmed by it. Now, if I lived there and ate there regularly, for sure I'd want to know.

I'm on vacation why would I want to be bothered with such YUCKY information? ;)

It's Disney, calories have all been removed. It's kind of like the holidays, right?

I'm on a salt restricted diet and would love to see how many sodium grams are in my food choices.

I would definitely not like to see the calories listed on menus! I went to NYC a few months ago and didn't like seeing it on the menu at the restaurant! I know what is or is not healthy at a restaurant just by using common sense and I order whatever it is I feel like at the time, but those calories printed would kinda ruin the vaca for me!

I do think it would be a good idea to have them available if requested!

I'm a carb counter, not a calorie counter and when I am at Disney I really don't want to think about it. Maybe they could give the nutritional info out just on a request only basis for the people who need it.

ROEDISNEY- Love that tattoo pic in your siggie!

My vote is "no" too! I'm afraid they'd get rid of some of the guilty pleasures, if they were forced to list the calorie count. Most people can tell what is laden w/ calories, w/o someone having to document it for them.

I don't think they will ever list the calories on menus. However, I do pay attention to what I'm eating, especially how much. Portion sizes are often huge, so I try to order thoughtfully. Even though I might fool my head into thinking going totally nuts on vacation is ok, my body (unfortunately) will know (and show) the truth. :flower3:

I am a diabetic who is on insulin and carb counting. It would help me soooo much if I just knew how many carbs where in the items that I order. Maybe they don't have to be posted on the menu but at least have the info if someone asks. I go to Disney at least once a year and my blood sugar levels are so out of control because I am guessing at everything I eat. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

No way! I want to enjoy myself on vacation not count calories, which I would be doing if I saw how many were actually in my favorite Disney foods.

That would be my concern too - that they'd do away with the more decadent items rather than publish the fact that they serve thousand calorie desserts. :rotfl:

I don't need to know how many calories are in my food when I'm on vacation. I like leaving the sensible, calorie conscious diet at home! Besides, I have it on good authority from a waiter at Sci-Fi that Disney food doesn't have calories. Its all part of the magic, you know! :thumbsup2

lol - My vote is for no! I like to eat whatever i want on vacation and pay for it later - I am not-so-proud to admit my average weight gain is between 12-15 lbs on a 10 day Dis trip (on my very average 150 lb frame - haha).....not sure how it happens but it does...but I never regret it as the food is just so good....I would rather live just that 10 days in ignorant bliss.

I think it would be great if to know the nutritional information, not just calories but fat, carbs & sodium. I know it won't ever happen, but a lot of us try to watch what we eat, even on vacation. At the very least, they could specify certain dishes as being "heart healthy," or some other designations like many restaurants do.
