Should be there right now - tips for rebooking

Me and my adult kids should be there right now. Unfortunately, my husband is ill and I need to be home with him. I want to try to re-book for either mid-November, first part of December, sometime in January, or wait until the first part of May. Questions:
  • I know nobody has a crystal ball, but has there traditionally ever been room discounts for any of these times of year? The original vacation was booked renting DVC points, but with the time frame you need to book, plus the fact that we don't know my husband's situation, it might be better to book directly with Disney (even though its more expensive).
  • What are the crowd levels like during any of these times. I know the beginning of May is historically slower, but what about the other times?
  • We already have 6 day park tickets. Can I just change the dates in the app when we decide to go, or do I need to call Disney? I know I will need to pay the price difference (if needed).
Any advice is appreciated. Super disappointed that our trip that we have been planning for so long is no more.

Thanks.

Really sorry to hear about your can trip. Things sometimes happen for a reason and I'm sure your rescheduled trip will be fantastic! Plus the excitement can last for a few more months 🙂
Disney releases quite a few discounts throughout the year and those dates may be included. You could always book for the dates you like and if a deal comes up you may be able to apply it to the existing reservation provided the room type, dates and availability are all there.
There are also crowd predictors out there you can look at. Disney is always busy it seems lol but some times busier than others. Undercover tourist might have one.
Not sure about changing tickets in the app. Maybe try my Disney?
Hopefully your husband feels better soon and best of luck with planning your trip!

Thank you so much for your kind words and advice. This has been a very difficult time for our family. Part of me feels like there is nothing to look forward to, but thinking about a future trip helps.
