short cuts from rental home

We are renting a pool home for 2 weeks and we leave in a week. It is in the Formosa Gardens area. I have found some sketchy maps of the area and I know where our rental is but I am sure there must be some way to avoid 192 when driving to WDW. I just can't find a map with anything north of 192 on it. This is our first time staying offsite and I don't want to spend tons of time in the car driving back and forth. I tried Mapquest but it only gives me directions using 192.
Any help would be appreciated.

You'll love Formosa Gardens. We've stayed many times at the neighborhood right next to FG called Rolling Hills. It's a great off-site location. The only thing you'll miss is maybe room/maid service but we feel the huge amount of extra space, privacy regarding bedrooms, multiple bathrooms and private pool more than make up for it.
Anyway, to answer your question, I found this on tripadvisor.com after our last visit so I haven't used it personally but many posters on TA agreed it's a great shortcut to avoid 192 traffic. You may want to recheck my advice on mapquest before you leave just to be sure.

When you leave FG, turn right onto Rt. 192. The next traffic light will be Sherberth Rd. Turn left there and follow it around to Osceola Parkway. Turn right and follow the signs to the Disney parks.
To return "home" after the parks they said to exit the parks following the signs for the Animal Kingdom resorts . Right after you pass the entrance to the Animal Kingdom, the next light is Sherberth so turn left here and it will take you right back to 192.

Although we have not personally used the Sherbeth Road shortcut, I have read on these boards many people do and save a ton of time. It does look like a big timesaver on the maps, most probably during busier seasons. I do know that on the way back it's very easy to miss the Sherbeth Road turnoff and end up in AK's parking lot. So, it's important to look for the sign that says AK Lodge not just AK. We've actually done this a few times on our way to AKL so I know how easy it is to do.

The directions given by the previous poster are correct. We used the Sherbeth Road shortcutto get to the parks every day on our last trip. It really was a time saver. We couldn't for the life of us figure out how to get back to our rental home the same way though. The turnoff to get back to Sherbeth Road from the parks is very easy to miss. My goal is to figure it out on the next trip.

We used the Sherbeth Road shortcut every time a couple of weeks ago. Saved lots of time. We had a rental house in the Indian Oaks area.

Once you are on Osceola Parkway, stay in the left lanes, and you won't end up in the Animal Kingdom. As I remember it, the Sherberth Rd. stoplight is before the AK Lodge entrance. You want the left turn lane at that light.

I use Sherbeth Road every time, unless traffic is heavy and I'm going someplace other than AKL, in which I spend the $1 toll and take the 429 north to Western Way.
