There was a post about this a while back but I can't figure out the search combinations to suss it out.

Once on I-75 Southbound in Florida what is your shortest/most secret route to Disney? Need help as I leave driving (alone) on Friday. Just changed my plates over so now I blend with the locals.

When we go we take 75 to the Fla Turnpike south and get off the Turnpike at I-4. Not sure if this is the fastest way to go, but for us it's the easiest.

Get off onto the FL turnpike southbound. Take exit 288 for Route 27 South. After you cross route 50 it's six traffic lights to route 192. Take 192 about three miles and follow the signs for Disney World.

There's a Publix about 3 miles south of Route 50 on the left that's got good prices and is in a residential area so nice selection.

That takes you so out of the way it's not even funny. It's got to be over 100 miles out of teh way!

It's 9.1 miles longer to take I-75 to the Fla Turnpike to I-4. But according to Microsoft Streets & Trips, it's 4 minutes quicker to go that way than to take Route 27 south to 192.

Oops! MY bad Totally!!!

I read it as taking I-75 to I-4--like in down to Tampa and then back up. Sorry for the confusion! :guilty:

I'd still take the Route 27 way, MUCH less traffic to deal with.

Any other routes? I'm thinking of trying the route 27 way because I'd want a change of pace by then...and if the cost is just 4 minutes...might be worth it just to see something different.

go on rt 27 to 192, that way you'll know all the businesses and rest. off wdw. that publix is a great place to shop. i would avoid i-4 like the plague, over the last couple years it has become a nightmare esp. by disney.

If you want a map. Stop at the official Disney Info Center in Ocala and they'll give you the directions for the back way. We always take it to avoid
I-4. Say hello to the Citrus Tower for me as you pass.

As long as you are getting off 27 at 192, you should be OK. Don't go further south. In my opinion, there are not many more dangerous roads in Central Florida than US 27.

Picture a divided highway with cars turning, entering, and shooting across.

Or stop in to the Citrus Tower and have lunch in Santiago's at the base of it--great Mexican at a very reasonable price!

Amen to that Ted. Something's got to give soon down there, before many more lose their lives. Between that and the Turnpike, I shudder when I get in the car lately.

I am sure you get the Four Corners Newsletter. There is a fatality almost weekly at Polo Park.

With all of the development on 27, they will have to do SOMETHING. They can't put a light at every driveway, but crossing 27 to get to a development is scary.

Have you heard of the "Green Swamp Expressway" project? Supposed to be a road going THROUGH the center of all of the communities on the west side of 27, south of 192. Good news for traffic, bad news for people who will not have a road in the backyard. If it is approved, that is.

I do get the newsletter Ted. it's just been so depressing lately. And that accident with that poor British family just broke my heart.

I ended up flying into TPA last night, the Northeast was a soupy mess with fog, and they weren't even sure my PHL/MCO flight would leave. When they offered TPA I gladly took them up on it. I warned my DH repeatedly to be ever so care on 27 south of 192 when he was coming to get me.
