We (myself, my adult daughter, and two girls, C, aged 5 and L, aged 1) left on Monday morning bright and early and arrived about 2 pm at the Paradise Pier, wandered around, had some supper and got to sleep for early entry on Tuesday. There was concern about L sleeping in the same room with everyone else still up, so her dad designed a screen - it was made of PVC pipes and covered with cheap Dollar Store tablecloth pinned around it. It folded in the middle and made a perfect area for the pack n' play - L loved her little private area and it worked like a charm. Patent pending. LOL.
The early entry, at 8 am was PACKED SOLID - very surprising! We rode Peter Pan first and had a wait there of about 10 minutes, then we rode Pinnochio and Snow White, Teacups (huge favorite!), the carousel, Casey Junior's Circus Train, and Small World. Then off to Star Tours, C's choice - L and I waited while C and her Mom rode.
We crossed over to Frontierland and after a tour of the petting zoo area, had the Celebration Barbeque, I think they have renamed it yet again - anyway, it was so good, like last time, and Mom and I ate lots of chicken and ribs, although the cold slop . . . er ... cole slaw remained untouched. There was no entertainment. Nice waiter!
Then it was off to the Haunted Mansion (Thunder Mt. was closed), we watched a good Tiana show, and rode on pirates and did some shopping and got autographs from Tigger and Woody. We went over to DCA in the afternoon and camped out for the PIxar parade - very fun! Back to the hotel and Mom returned alone to the park and rode Indiana Jones and Space Mountain with her fast passes from earlier in the day.
On Wednesday we had our character breakfast with Mickey in the Paradise Pier dining room. It was a surfer theme and C got to see Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, and Stitch there. We went into DCA after breakfast and rode Soarin' - since L is too small, C got to ride twice - lucky girl! I think it is my favorite ride. We then ran around DCA - over to Muppet show, Monsters Inc., and, after a hot dog, headed towards Toy Story Mania. On the way, Mom took the girls on some of the bugsland kiddie ride while I loafed on a bench.
For some reason, prior to the trip, C decided she didn't like that ride because it shot air bursts into her face at one point, so I made her a "Stops Windy Air" card out of cardboard, which she decorated with stickers the night before. I told her she could hold the card up and deflect windy blasts of air. We had good fun practicing while blowing into each other's faces. On the ride itself, she had the card but turned to me and said, "Gran, you hold this up when there are air blasts to protect my face so I can shoot with my hands." I politely declined, pointing out that I needed to shoot, too, so we just didn't use the card at all and the ride was very much enjoyed by both.
After TSMM, we strolled around the Paradise Lagoon and observed the hardware for the new World of Color show, which will officially open June 11th. Then we went back over to Disneyland and Mom rode Indiana Jones, then we all sailed on the jungle boat and saw the birds at the Tiki Room. The tiki room was especially appealing to L, who shrieked with glee every time a different bird, flower, or idol was spotlighted.
At supper time we were pretty exhausted, but dragged over the Rainforest Cafe, which was not great food but good atmosphere for little kids and kept them both amused with fish tanks and rainstorms. After dinner, we hit the sack.
On Thursday, we had another early entry day and this time M and C sprinted off really fast, while L and I strolled in. They rode the Matterhorn and we met at Alice in Wonderland, then repeated the teacups and carousel. A long wait was spent waiting for Tinkerbell and Silvermist, but the encounters were successful and nice people to chat with in line.
Off again, this time C and I rode Star Tours then we all watched Captain EO!! Wow that was fun - it was a bit different because we were in the "Honey I shrunk the Audience" theater and since it has moving seats and "effects" they had tied them into the Capt. EO movie somewhat - Mom liked that, but I could have done without it; still, seeing the movie again was GREAT and C liked it, too. Afterwards we rode Buzz Lightyear then ventured into Toon Town (C insisted, we agreed). On the way, we rode Small World again and had lunch at the newish Troubadour eating area - they have huge baked potatoes or you can brats and kraut, which is a nice change from the other places - I got broccoli topping and it was very good - the broccoli was actually fresh and flavorful! After eating, we rode Roger Rabbit. Then the girls played for about 30 minutes in Goofy's playground, a nice yard designed for 1 to 5 year olds. They totally enjoyed that!
Meandered over to Frontierland to see Billy Hill and the Hillbillies, which people on the DISboards have always raved about. - Prior to the show, L was asleep so Mom and C went off to Haunted Mansion and Tiki Room again. When they returned I got a turkey leg and they got ice cream sundaes and we saw Billy Hill - well, he was VERY GOOD - they are a bluegrass comedy group, good musicians overall, with a "Riders in the Sky" feel to them. I highly recommend seeing this show at least once, if you haven't already.
By now we were all tired and it was after 4 pm, so we sadly rode pirates again as our "last ride" and went back to shop downtown, grab some (tasty and inexpensive) nachos from Tortilla Joe's (their take away area) and head back to the hotel.
We had a great time and can't wait to go back!
