Need some help here from experienced cruisers/snorkelers.
There are 2 snorkeling trips offered at Nassau and one on Castaway Cay. I have done lots of snorkeling in the past and am doing this mainly for my kids ages 10 and 12 who have never snorkeled before.

I am leaning towards seeing some of Nassua (possibly the history and tour) and then taking the kids on the Castaway Cay snorkel instead of the Nassua catamaran snorkel trip. Any experienced recommendations on the best snorkeling excursion (weather dependent of course).

CAN"T WAIT!!! November 18, 2004. 7 day land (Animal Kingdom) and Sea, November 21, 2004. (4 days on Wonder)

I did a taxi tour of Nassau many years ago and had the best and funniest driver/tour guide. The trip was a present to my 13-year old neice from Mom and I and that driver had us in stitches for almost the entire tour. He showed some areas he said were not on the regular tour and was very informative about the many places that were a part of the history of Nassau. We then saved our snorkeling for Disney/PCL's private island, which was a good place to introduce my neice to snorkeling because we were not rushed by an organized tour's schedule.
My neice went home with a little education and some stress-free athletic swimming...

Dave,

If this will be their first time snorkeling I would skip all the tours and just hit the snorkel lagoon at Castaway Cay. It is a great first time experience. Not as many fish as you might see on an excursion, but lots of little extras in the water like a sunken Mickey and even a sunken sub from the old 20,000 leagues ride.

A few hints:

*Be one of the first ones in the lagoon - the more people that come in the murkier the water as the sand gets kicked up.

*Bring your own mask and snorkel if you have them. Much better than the ones they rent. You can just rent fins if you want.

*Everyone must wear a vest, but they are given out free.

We loved hitting the snorkeling lagoon first thing in the morning and then we have the rest of the day to enjoy the island.

Me too! My family (DH,DS13,DS9) will be doing the same land/sea as you. Right down to the resort. There's a thread for our cruise on the cruise meets board. Hope to see you there.
