We are on the 9/25 Magic (western) next week and am assuming that we will not stop at Grand Cayman (prayers go out to the people of these islands).

I'm not sure where we will end up, but if we do stop at Costa Maya, what were the shore excursions that were offered ?

Thank you

According to my Navigator, here are the excursions that were offered on the day we stopped at Costa Maya during our 10-night cruise:

Costa Maya Beach Snorkel 7:45am

Costa Maya Boat Snorkel 7:45am

Outdoor Bike & Kayak 7:45am

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins 8:00am

All Terrain Expedition 8:00am

Jungle Beach Break 9:00am

Costa Maya Boat Snorkel 11:45am

Outdoor Bike & Kayak 11:45am

Hope this helps!

thank you seaspray,

Being on the 10/9 western, and anticipating a port change, this was the exact info I was looking for. Did you go on any of the excursions in Costa Maya? If so what did you think? My Mom went to the ruins earlier this year on an RCCL trip...will check with her later today to see what she thought of them. If I'm remembering right she thought they were great.

Jennifer: We did the Tulum Mayan ruins while we were at Cozumel so we didn't do any excursions while at Costa Maya. Here's a site I found with some info and pics of the ruins at Chacchoben. http://www.locogringo.com/past_spotlights/feb2004.cfm

They look very interesting! The jungle atmosphere is definitely a lot different than the atmosphere at Tulum, which was very open with a few trees. I hope this helps :)

Just to get an idea of what types of excursions are offered in Costa Maya in case we go there (Oct 9th), I looked at the Royal Caribbean Cruise lines web site's page on shore excursion's to the Western Caribbean (don't look at Mexico-it's not there). You can also look at the CruiseCritic web site on shore excurions to get an idea. What I have seen offred so far isn't to exciting considering the young children in my party. If we go there, I might just find a beach to go to. Any recommendatons?

;) Great minds must think a like...I just was over at the RCCL site a few hours ago. I have also checked the Cruisecritic site...Majahaul (sp?) looks pretty good for the kids but I was soo looking forward to snorkeling and stingray city in GC (we were taking the kids with Nativeway) I sure wish Sharon from Nativeway would post a hurricane update on their website...I am worried for all the people there and hope she is ok.

We are on the 11/6 sailing of The Magic and I was also looking at the beach town adjacent to Costa Maya. Was also thinking how the kids probably won't have much to do there(except swim of course). Did you see the info on the monkey farm? That was of some interest for the kiddies. Try checking out http://mayanbeachgarden.com

Where exactly in the Costa Maya region would the cruise ship be stopping? From what I can see there are 2 different ports and I am guessing that it would probably be Majahual?

Was on 8/28-9/4 (to 9/7) Magic.
Costa Maya was wonderful.
It was an artificial Mexican village.
We chose to just spend the day there. The kids loved shopping for inexpensive stone chess sets and silver bangles. Shopping was more accessible than Cozumel and no more expensive for low end. High end selections (at Diamonds International, etc, was not up to snuff of the other ports, but they "opened" the stores just for us.
The pool was LOVELY and large. The adjacent beach has sharp rocks and signs said not for swimming although many did swim.
The Mexican dance show was surprisingly nice (Ballet Folklorico) with dances from Aztec human sacrifice ritual to modern dances for the various regions of Mexico. Beautiful costumes and talented dancers.
We had a great day there without any excursion.
I was told that the jungle ruin trip was not recommended for kids given the duration of the bus ride both ways. Also insect bite warnings on the navigator for the ruins.
Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.

I haven't even bothered to call DCL to find out a new itinerary. With both Jeanne & Karl in the Atlantic, I'm sure DCL are waiting to see what they are doing, before they commit to anything & then it's not for certain where they will go.
