I understand there is a new complex of shops/restaurants around Seaworld-is it possible to access this without theme park admission? I was thinking of a place for grandparents to wait while we do the park. thanks.

No these shops are in the park so u need admission to enter although did see at BG they let u in to shop for 30min if u left a deposit and if u return inside your time u get deposit back don't konw if they do something similar at SW

There's a gift shop outside the front gates of Sea World, but it doesn't have the stuff you'd find at the Waterfront.

The Waterfront is that new area with shops and restaurants. Definitely worth going too. The shops sell stuff that goes way beyond the typical souvineers, and the restaurants are the best in the park. It certainly doesn't take a whole day to visit this area. It's in the park, down by the Skytower, and well worth browsing.
