Hi,

Wondering if the stores generally still have summer items (beach towels, sand toys, etc...) on the shelves in late August?

Here in Canada they have removed most of the "seasonal" items by that time and replaced them with back to school stuff. Wondering if Wal-marts (and other stores) will likely still have these items on the shelves. We'll be in Tampa/Clearwater area Aug. 18th.

When we travelled to California a couple of years ago we had a hard time finding beach towels in late Aug. at the stores we went to.

Thanks in advance!

Targets around Orlando have clearanced out their summer stuff. Walmart on Turkey Lake and several other stores in the tourist area will still stock some stuff. Pool toys etc.

We've bought swimsuits at Target in March - don't think that's early summer stock as the selection was a bit limited but still enough for the teenager who forgot to pack hers :)' . Publix always has a great selection of beach towels (Disney themed or not). I imagine it wouldn't be TOO hard to find something reasonable in August.

And if you want a GREAT deal on winter wear, check out Columbia at the outlet mall. For some reason winter hats, mitts and jackets are all slow movers in Orlando?

We go to WDW almost every year in August(last 2 weeks) and have always seen that type of stuff in Walmart. It's FL....as in summer 3/4 of the year. If you can't find beach type stuff at Walmart/Target you can always to to the cheap souvie places. There's one right on 535 at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd.

Because items that are seasonal in Canada are not necessarily seasonal in Orlando (swimsuits, shorts etc.) you will still find plenty of selection.

If you are looking for Target clearance, your best bet is to look in Canada Targets right now (not sure if you have it in Hali yet), as there is a LOT of summer apparel on clearance.

Anything you are looking for specifically?

Thanks for the replies, sounds like we'll be able to find what we need. We'll be around Clearwater beach area for a week before going to Disney and I'm not sure if we want to pack 4 beach towels and the sand toys for the kids since it would use up a fair bit of luggage space.

3 weeks till we leave. :cool1:

Thanks again!

P.S. Targets aren't open yet in Hali but I think they are supposed to open around September, looking forward to it.

You should be able to find beach towels at many places, even a Walmart. For beach toys, might as well check out the dollar store. If you're in a tourist area, you will have no trouble finding these items.

Not sure if it will be as touristy in Clearwater, but if you're in Orlando near WDW prior to Clearwater, they will have these items even at Walgreens (drugstore on every corner).

Yes, all of those items are available year around in Orlando, Tampa, and Clearwater. They may reduce the amount of items in stock, but they are still available.

Funny, eh? We are in Halifax also, and I can't find any extra shorts at this point in the season. Thought I'd find clearance and I found..sweaters. :headache:

Yeah, we've travelled off season and found what we needed for hardy Canucks in a big Wal Mart.

Great tip about the Columbia store! I just bought this year's winter coats (groan), but a few accessories wouldn't go astray.

If you can find clearance stuff you want through etailers (like Lands End or LLBean for us, though the possibilities are endless...) you can have it shipped and waiting for you at your hotel. We often do that. Then you aren't paying shipping fees and duty to get it here, and you can include it in your duty free allowance coming home.

I'm also in Hali, (can't figure out how to change my info on my account, it says invalid format all the time!).

We usually travel in Fall or Spring and have no problems finding summer stuff at the Big Walmart on Turkey Lake Road.
