Hi All,

How realistic is it to plan to do a big grocery shop on the day of arrival? I'm staying in a villa for the 1st time. Travelling with TCD, so I think we will be in Kissimee. We should land at about 1630, so thought that by the time we collect the car and find the villa it will be eve. So instead of wasting a day of the hol, we are considering just dumping our cases and then doing a weekly shop!! Has anyone else done this? or does it sound like madness?!!!

Has anyone any comments on TCD villas?

Very excited - 10wks to go :cool1:

This is certainly "doable".
I know people who would usually drop off their bags at the villa, go out grab a quick pizza, shop at Publix or similar , get home unpack shopping, unpack bags fall into bed about 9:30-10:00. It's a good way to get into Florida time, but don't plan to have too early a start the next day.

Hi

Last year when we stayed in a villa with friends and our kids, we left the men with the kids and as girls went a did a food shop...and this year as we were with a 6mts old, we just did a very quick shop (i.e bits for dinner and b'fast) then did a big shop the next day...but cos you are close to afew supermarkets it is very doable...

Enjoy..

We do a big shop on arrival day and we touch down this year also at about 4:30pm. In 2003 we were out near Haines City (Southern Dunes) with TCD so don't be surprised if you are a fair way from Disney. However, SD was a great gated community with a huge Walmart by the front gates.

One thing I've done this time is work out where the 10 or so Walmart's in the area are so no matter where we end up being allocated to, im sure we will find the shop quite easily. The Walmart website has a storefinder section, so just key in the Zip for LBV or Kissimmee and it'll show you nearby stores.

We find you are so tired by the time you get to the villa you just want to fall into bed. Last year we woke so early we were doing a Wal-Mart shop at 6:30 the next morning it was really quiet!!!! Took the shopping back to the villa then it was time for breakfast and still got a good start for the day

Warks :earsboy:

Hi, I think it's fine. We arrived around the same time as you, arrived at our townhouse (which was only 2 minutes from Walmart) and did a shop straight away. It depends how old the kids are but if you can do it, it's worth doing as your 'real' first day in Florida is then free to do as you wish.

Yes we always do a supermarket shop when we arrive.
With them being 24 hours it not a problem

Hubby goes out and does a shop when we arrive... leaving me to unpack and keep our son awake!! (DS5 would NEVER make it around a supermarket!) You have to think.. would your kids want to go food shopping at 10pm at night at home.. if the answer is no, then I wouldnt take them... I can imagine total meltdown!!

So.. DH comes back with basics and usually when we awake really early the next morning 5ish.. we go to walmart! I can tell you.. there arent many people in walmart at 5.30am!!

Last year us girlies unpacked whilst the men went shopping. By the time they got back we had unpacked and bathed the kids and ourselves. Best thing to do is maybe write a quick list on the plane and hand it over to DH so he has got an idea what to get.

First thing I do when we have settled down at the villa and unpacked is go to the Publix and stock up.
Always have a big list for the first trip so I tend to go on my own - do this every year and although I am a bit tired it's not really a problem.

hiya
