Hi,

Just wondering what the shopping in St Thomas is like.

I'm not particularly interested in buying any jewellery but general items. Any recommendations of places to visit and also places to avoid gratefully received.

Thanks in advance.

If you dock there is a mall at the pier. It seems to have most of the same stores there as on the Main Street.

If you anchor, you will be tendered right to the Main Shopping district. If you look to the right you will see a bunch of blue and white tents. That is sort a market area. Dozens of vendors selling local crafts, t-shirts, hats, all the souvenier stuff. It is fun to go and look. My experience was most of the people did not bargain as much as on St. Maarten. So just take a look around. There are a lot of "Name" stores, Hilfiger, Coach, etc., so it's kind of what your intentions are. There some neat little stores to go into and browse around. If you go up to Paradise Point tram there are stores up there as well.

I went to St. Thomas 3 yrs ago on RCCL and that was by far our favorite place to shop. Where we were docked you could see the shops from the boat. You could walk but we decided to take the short cab ride. There are alot of street vendors selling very neat stuff. We spent the whole day shopping there. There is so much to see (we didn't even see it all). We ate lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe. Because it's a USVI so many people spoke English which was so nice because we just came from the southern Caribbean and no one spoke much English. We saw alot of teenagers 18-24 working there from the states. It was by far the best stop we made. Enjoy and have fun!!!::MinnieMo

I agree with TheWog, prices and bargains seemed to be better in St Maarten.

Was surprised to see one of the first stores next to the ferry drop-off in St Maarten and their deals on beach towels. At the beginning of the day, beach towels were 2 for $15. At noon, they were 3 for $15, finally late in the afternoon around 4:30 as we were returning to the ship, we noticed that they were 5 for $15! DW had to buy them at that price, even though we have too many now. She loves a bargain!

You are welcome. Have fun....

There is a great linnen shop. I stock up on table clothes every couple of years.
