Shopping for clothes for trip-

We haven't taken a vacation in 5 years. We also buy new clothes VERY rarely. We've decided that we deserve some new clothes for our special trip. It feels good to be wearing new things and we want this trip to feel great in every way.

I want to keep costs relatively low and not overpack as well. I'm starting my shopping now as I see things on sale.

My problem is, I have no idea what we need to buy since I have no idea how to dress in Florida in early December. We will be able to wash clothes for a good portion of our trip because we'll be in a villa.

What do we take? Will we need shorts at all? I've heard to skip the denim but I can't remember where or why. That may have been a summer tip too.

Any ideas?

Thanks

We've gone to Disney the first week of December for the past few years. Here are some considerations:

1) What is the weather like at home? If you come from cold weather, it will likely seem a lot warmer to you than if you come from somewhere that is a little warm already. My mom lives in Florida and wears pants while we wear shorts there!

2) Do you have boys or girls? I have girls, so we often go with capris that time of year. It seems like we could wear capris and short sleeved shirts most days.

3) What time of day will you be outside? During the morning we often took jackets into the parks. During the afternoon, it could be really hot (read: use suntan lotion!!) some days. In the evenings, we often needed light jackets.

I cannot personally ever remember me or my husband wearing pants in the parks. Definitely light jackets, but never pants. We also layered almost everything--shorts with a t-shirt with a sweatshirt. That kind of thing.

Hope that helps! It always seems like we pack a ton for that time of year because we just never know!

We went last December and it got COLD. There were near record lows in the low 40s (one night got to upper 30s), which apparently is cold for Florida. The best advice is to think layers. I packed jeans and a pair of knit pants. For the top I packed some Tees, some long-sleeved Tees, and a denim button-up shirt I could wear over the shirts as a light jacket. I also packed a heavier jacket, gloves (thank goodness) and a knit Mickey hat with ears. Hubby recommends a pair of earmuffs as well! We did MVMCP and the Osborne lights, CP etc. so we were out every night after dark when it got cold. Day temps were in the 60s and lower 70s. We basically dressed for the day, went back to the resort for a rest, and changed for the evening. Knit pants made great p.j. bottoms when lounging in the room watching TB. We didn't need shorts, but I've talked to people who've gone in Dec. and had temps in upper 80s and been hot. The weather forecast before we went was calling for cold weather and was correct.

Being able to layer is helpful when you go inside for a nice meal, etc. You can remove a coat and button up shirt down to your tee--but you can't remove a sweatshirt if that's all you're wearing!

Oh my, sounds like we have to be prepared for anything! Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought that I might need shorts at all, but now I see that I will. I may pick up some smaller stuff for myself too, as I plan to get these pounds off so I have room to put them back on as I eat my way around the World. ;)

Thanks again.
