Hi all,

Can't believe we go in 12 days!

I am looking for your best shops and child-friendly restaurants you would not want to miss on your trip.

Any particular shops for kids clothes other than Gap? Is there an OshKosh?

Hope you all had a great Christmas and have a happy new year!

:wave2:

There used to be an excellent Oshkosh at Belz but I'm afraid I have no idea if it's still there. We used to do loads of shopping but really don't bother now - often you have to search through piles of junk and we just don't want to do that.

Hope you find what you want - I'm sure someone who has young children will be along soon and let you know where to go.

Have fun.

There's a Tommy Hilfiger Kids at Premium Outlets that's good for kids clothes.

We also got some bargains at OshKosh, also at premium, and VF Outlet at Lake Buena Vista stores.

As far as restaurants go, there are some great places off-site for families to eat. Tony Roma's is really good, although slightly more expensive than your average steak/ribs place. We also really liked Friendlys last time we went (more of a diner than restaurant but the food is great and their ice-cream/desserts are to die for).

As far as shopping for children GAP is probably your best bet , there is a lack of quality clothing stores for kids I think, you may be better off at some of the Department Stores I list below.

There are numerous restaurants to suit all budgets, buffet style such as Ponderosa and Golden Corral are very popular, as well as others such as Sweet Tomatoes/Olive Garden/Outback etc - I am sure if you do a genral search you will find plenty of good advice.

Shopping:
The best mall overall is the Florida Mall, with a good cross-section of stores and will not necessarily be over expensive.
The Mall At Millenia is probably the nicest (and newest) but possibly not the best for bargains with some very exclusive stores - often you wonder if anyone actually goes in some of them as there always seem to be 2 or 3 smartly dressed staff waiting to pounce.

Both of the above have very good Department Stores such as Macy's, Bloomingdales at M&M, Dillards,Burdines, Lord & Taylor, Nordstrom and Saks 5th Avenue at FM where you can get good value for money.
There are also JC Penney and Sears which tend to be not quite as upmarket as the other depeartment stores at the Mall.

Both M&M and FM also boast excellent food courts.

For ladies fashions you are probably better off in one of the better Department stores where they do DKNY/Ralph Lauren etc ..there are plenty of women's stores within the malls, I know as I am often waiting for my wife outside them!! there is one called Anne Taylor which she likes and a couple of unisex stores to watch out for American Eagle and Abercrombie & Fitch.

Festival Bay is a fairly new development too and gets better each time we go, and is very different from the standard mall with very unique shops including the Ron Jon Surf Store. However, a lot of the plots remain untaken and it is taking time to fully develop, it has the potential though.
There are a couple of malls a bit further away such as West Oaks and Fashion Square, but FM and M&M are the best.

All the malls but particularlt FM and FB, also have some excellent stalls that sell quality perfumes and jewellery in particular.

As far as bargains go in Orlando, Premium Outlets is the best one, although as with all discount shops can be a bit hit and miss as most of the goods never sold at the bigger stores originally.
Similar are the Lake Buena Vista Factory Stores, possibly not as good as PO, a lot of the stores are US labels you will probably be unfamiliar with.

Generally there are bargains to be had pretty much anywhere, especially on sportswear - there are a number of Nike outlets in Orlando - naturally the best bet are US labels like Nike, Oakley, Levi's etc

Jewellery and perfumes are generally also cheaper in the malls than they are here in the UK.

We found lots of great children's (and adults') clothes in WalMart & Super target. The nice thing about these stores is that they are so big, you can have a good look at the clothes and send children with their dad off to look at the toys - everyone's happy then :)

As to restaurants, I find most in Orlando cater superbly for children. You get special kid's menus which often include activities / colouring / puzzles, and some of these can be a few pages long. Free refills always go down well with my children (and with me ;) ). Servers have always been welcoming, engaging the children in conversation and treating them well rather than as an annoyance (which I do find occasionally in the UK).

Places we & the children like include

IHOP (International Hpuse of Pancakes)
Denny's
Chili's
Perkins
Shoney's
Bennigans
Bahama Breeze

and there are virtually no restaurants at WDW (only a couple of exceptions anyway) that don't welcome younger guests :)

I agree with this - we got some great kids clothes at Super Target - dd got some pink suede Hello Kitty boots for $16 and everyone here raves about them. I also like Old Navy outlets for kids clothes - they wash and wear well and to quote Del Boy If you want a bit of designer gear check out Tommy Kids at the Premium outlet.

One cheap food place which makes a change from all the usual stuff is Sweet Tomatoes just off I-Drive. It's a salad buffet but also offers pasta pizza and home made soup which is yummy

Good luck and have a great trip

Another vote for Sweet Tomatoes. Excellent salad bar, much bigger and more variety than other places we've tried AND they do a range of home made cakes wich are yummy.

Our DS is 3 and was just turned 2 and nearly 3 on both trips. I love the Mall at Millenia and find that the food options situated in and around the Mall are very good and very child friendly.
California grill serves great pizza and sandwiches and is inside the food hall at the Mall at Millenia. Also the Cheesecake Factory and PF CHangs (Chinese) which is just outside the main doors.
I have also heard great reviews of Panera bread which is also inside the food Hall.
To be honest I like GAP when we visit and find the prices alot cheaper than in the UK. I have never really visited Osh Kosh so Ican't say.
We have never had a problem taking DS anywhere to eat and find that restaurants in the States cater better for children than here as eating out is quite the norm for families.

Oshkosh is still at Beltz expect it is now called Prime, the mall that is. Spent loads there last month.

there is definately an osh kosh at LBV outlets and premium outlets, we had a look in but i wasn't very impressed at the range. i normally love Osh Kosh but the colours were very drab and the prices not particularly cheap. I prefer the ranges they have in Boots stores in the UK.

Florida mall is fantastic. loads of great shops there, and mall at Millenia is very nice but very upmarket (great if you're looking for that gucci dress and Jimmy Choo shoes :) ).

As for eating out you are spoiled for choice. One regret we had was we didn't eat offsite much other than olive garden, ponderosa, and IHOP. All were good and very cheap and welcomed the kids with activities and the such. Ponderosa wasn't fantastic but good for a cheap meal.

Have a great time, i wish i was going in 12 days

Food wise my new fave place is Chili's, Good, reasonably prices food :goodvibes

Thanks everyone for the info.

I know I will end up spending my time looking for clothes for the kids - I always do! - at least I know where to look now.

Hope you all had a great New Year :wave2:

My kids love Planet holywood & lots of people with younger kids rave about Rainforest cafe. We ate at the one at Animal Kingdom & I wasn't impressed & tought it expensive for what we got. though the kids were too old to enjoy the theming.

We really like Race Rock The food is great & the theming really appeals to the males in your family
