My husband read somewhere that shoes were required for any child, even infants, not in a stroller in the parks. Is this true? Does my 5 month old need shoes for our upcoming trip? Thanks

I've never heard anything like that. My kids had trips at 2 months old, 8 months, and 11 months and there were no shoes involved. The 8 and 11 month old may have had socks on. If there's a new policy about shoes, I'd take it in the spirit it was likely given - a non-walking child won't injure their feet walking.

I'm not bringing any shoes for my 3 month old and we leave tomorrow. Just bringing socks. Shoes are such a pain...the ones we have are hard to slip on her foot and I have to take them off for every poopy diaper change or else I run the risk of having her kick her heel into the poop!

We took DD when she was 9 mo. She was in a stage where she kept taking off her shoes and wasn't walking yet. The only issue we had was at the boneyard. They do require shoes there. No where else was anything said.

Only if you plan to have their feet touch the ground! If not, no you don't need anything. I imagine with a 5 month old you aren't holding them up and helping them walk yet, so you are good to go with nothing.

I'm the one that always likes to be prepared so I would stick a pair of soft sole cheap ones in your bag just in case. i too have heard of some CM's being a stickler for the rule that everyone must have shoes on and insisting that even babies have them. Much easier to slip on a pair than have to skip a ride or go buy an expensive pair there.

When DD was 10 months they wouldn't let us out her on the ground for character pictures because she needed shoes.

That is a very good rule IMO. There are so many germs on the ground where everyone walks and babies always put their feet in their mouths :crazy2:

I have actually seen people let their little ones walk barefoot in public restrooms - gross me out! :sad2:

The germaphobe inside me just died a little! Barefoot in restrooms?!?!? Where is the common sense???

While no thats not true...I've taken mine as infants as well as family members and never been an issue, I did have a cm @ Disneyland once try to tell me my 4 month old needed shoes on to ride Buzz...I just kinda looked strangly at her and another cm happened to be there and said that shoes were not required and we rode but it was odd.

Thanks everyone. The baby is not really able to be independent at all right now so he is either being held, in the stroller or the carrier... I do have some borrowed soft shoes but he kicks off everything so I don't think they would stay on him even for a ride...

We just got back two weeks ago from an 8 day trip. My 9 month old never wore shoes and only socks on a few occasions and no one said a word to me. I cannot imagine any of them giving you a hard time about shoes on an infant??? That just seems silly.

I did a search on this topic, since I had an issue with this yesterday! And this thread was first in the list. My husband and I moved to Orlando in August with our two children. We have been in the parks 3-4 times a week since we've been here, and not once has our infant worn shoes. No one had said a word until yesterday at MK. We were in line to board the TTA, and the CM insisted that my 9 month old could not ride without shoes! I tried to explain that she's been on every ride in WDW without shoes, and I wanted to know why it was now a problem. I ended up speaking to a supervisor, who told me that a non-walking infant certainly did not need shoes! So, if you happen to encounter a CM who insists on shoes for your infant, definitely ask to speak with a supervisor.

I have seen parents forced to pickup a crawling infant in a play area when child did not have shoes on. parents did complain that child never wore shoes but CM would not allow child to crawl without shoes, was not the boneyard.
